A new rabbit roguelike with MMO raid vibes has jumped onto the scene

While roguelikes and MMOs are already two much-loved game genres, seeing the two synthesize together seamlessly into an adorable, rabbit-themed indie title has to be one of the happiest surprises we’ve had in a while. So grab your rabbit ears and battle spears!

What is Rabbit and Steel?

Rabbit and Steel, which comes from the brilliant minds at mino_dev, has emerged under the radar as the new spiritual successor to Maiden and Spell. Keeping the same beautiful aesthetic, this time it combines the progression elements of roguelikes and the strategic attack elements of classic MMOs in one rabbit-sized package.

Upon jumping in, the game introduces the player to a whimsical tale of a place known as the Moonlight Kingdom that has fallen under a mysterious and powerful spell. To get to the bottom of it all and free the kingdom, players must fight against enchanted inhabitants and, ultimately, the perpetrator of the spell.

Before starting your epically beautiful journey through Moonlit Kingdom, you can choose from a tempting variety of 10 characters, many of which hearken back to classic MMO roles like Wizard, Druid, Bruiser, and Heavyblade. Even better, you can further customize your bunny of choice with different color schemes and accessories.

To our delight, this unique blend of gameplay works magically well, and there’s still plenty of flexibility with online play. While the game is primarily intended to be conquered with a group of well-adjusted bunnies, there is an “Offline” mode that still caters to those who prefer to progress on their own. Not only that, there are various difficulties to choose from, from “Cute” and casual to the relentless “Moon” difficulty for those who want a serious challenge.

Every battle encountered in Rabbit and Steel features an impressive variety of attack-style mechanics, from dodging and soaking AoEs to knockbacks, chaining debuffs, and much more. Teamwork is the key to victory, and in tradition with roguelikes, as you defeat bosses and level up, you can unlock new abilities, character buffs, and even new weapons, each with their own unique characteristics.

As impressed as we are with the game so far, the Steam community lavished it with ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews. Many players who also frequent popular MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV praise its intuitive and engaging attack gameplay, being too charming to ignore.

Rabbit and Steel is currently available everywhere on Steam for USD 14.99. A demo is also free to download for those who would rather soak their bunnies first.
