A terrifying tentacled enemy may be coming to Helldivers 2, according to leaks

Helldivers is shaking in its boots amid rumors that a much-feared foe from the original Helldivers title could be making its way into the wildly popular sequel. And they’re right to be afraid because it’s about underground cover and…tentacles.

Originating from the first Helldivers game, the Impaler is a tank-like Terminid insect that at first glance looks a lot like the Charger. But it uses its claw-shaped head to impale you and your fellow Helldivers instead of rushing you headfirst. And it does this by digging its head into the ground and then shooting out three sharp tentacles right under where you and your unsuspecting friends are standing. It sounds terrible.

The above post on the always entertaining Helldivers 2 subreddit shows the work of a savvy data miner who unearthed some pretty telling filenames titled “Behaviold_bug_impaler” and “Behaviold_bug_impaler_tentacle”. While the data miner notes “that the model for the bug is not currently in the files” (even leading one user to speculate that it could just be cut content), they specify that these files have just been added to the general files of the patch 01.000. .400. Suspicious, indeed.

Rest assured that, like all Terminids in Helldivers 2, the Impaler exposes its weakness when it buries its head underground – at least if its behavior in Helldivers 1 is anything to go by. When it digs its head into the ground, it exposes a set of vulnerable organs that certainly won’t last long against the mighty arsenal of the Helldivers. Looks like things could get messy.

As always though, developer Arrowhead Studios has yet to officially confirm the Impaler’s presence, so keep an eye out for updates to the game in the coming weeks and months. And with rumors of a whole new enemy faction (or two) coming to the game soon, I have a feeling we’re in for a lot of fresh new content in Helldivers 2 very soon.
