Battle Royale isn’t Battle Royale anymore, Warzone fans say

Call of Duty: Warzone has seen several changes, both positive and negative, in its four-year life cycle. The game was all the rage when it was released back in 2020 as it offered a varied and fresh take on the Battle Royale genre. However, some players now believe that the game has strayed from the original Battle Royale concept.

Traditionally in a Battle Royale game, a group of players are left in an environment to compete against each other, and the last person standing wins. Warzone did just that and attracted massive player numbers; in addition, it also became the first and only free-to-play Call of Duty title. One of the main highlights of the game was the redeployment feature, which meant that dead teammates could be brought back into the match just by spending some cash. However, players do not like the harsh extension of this mechanic in the current state of the game.

User GloriousFlame posted a video on Reddit showing a gameplay clip in the final round of Warzone. You can notice how the players kept using flares and portable purchase stations to redeploy their teammates. Additionally, the ability to carry multiple self-revivals in your backpack also keeps knocking down players back into the fight as if nothing happened.

Skyline commented in the thread, “We have Resurgence. Why do we need so many recoveries on normal BR?” I couldn’t agree more. These redeployment features are only good to some extent in Battle Royale. If the developers really want to keep these mechanics in the game, Resurgence game mode is the best place for it.

Battle Royale needs a serious rework before the next big Black Ops 6 integration happens later this year. Some improvements can be made to the redeployment system; for example, how often a player can be redeployed, how late into a match the redeployment stops, flares to generate restrictions, and make portable purchase stations unusable in the gas.
