Best settings of Black Myth Wukong Steam Deck for better performance

Black Myth: Wukong, despite being a very resource demanding action RPG, is shockingly fully playable on the Steam Deck. Here, I’ll guide you through the best settings to achieve the best possible performance.

First, it’s important to note that you won’t get close to 60FPS in this title, even at the lowest possible settings, so the goal will be to get 30FPS as consistently as possible for the smoothest possible experience. Fortunately, this is achievable, and while it’s not perfect, it’s most definitely playable overall.

First, I’ll list the most important graphics settings to change, and then I’ll list any additional changes you can make later.

Framerate Cap – 30 (In the View menu, not Graphics)
Super Resolution Sampling – FSR
Super Resolution – 80
Frame Generation – Disabled
Graphics Default – Low
Anti-Aliasing Quality – Medium
Texture Quality – Medium

Setting your graphics presets to low saves you the hassle of manually changing them all yourself, meaning you only need to change the two listed.

One more thing is done when launching Black Myth: Wukong through Steam, where you want to choose to run the game in Compatibility Mode. This reduces some of the more intense frame drops (especially during loads), while not affecting the quality in any real way. One more thing to do is disable the Steam Deck frame rate limiterwhich you can do via the quick access menu on your Steam Deck. Battery wise, this game will drain it, and no amount of settings adjustments will make a noticeable impact on that. You’re only looking at about an hour and a half of battery life from a full charge while gaming, so it might be best to play this one from the comfort of home.

Hopefully with some time for more user pre-compiled shaders to appear, and some performance patches, this game can get a few more performance improvements, so everyone can experience the joy of absolutely mauling some poor mug with a stick in a handy handheld package .
