Bioware promises a return to the classic with a renamed Dragon Age: The Veilguard

What was once Dragon Age: Dreadwolf finally has a big update from BioWare. It looks like the fourth Dragon Age game in the series is coming with a fresh name – Dragon Age: The Veilguard. 10 years passed, a long wait for every inquisitor who watched the egg (Solas) betray them. So, what’s next?

BioWare invited fans to join them Dragon Age YouTube channel on June 11th at 8:00am PT to witness over 15 minutes of gameplay from the opening scenes of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

During this gameplay, we may witness one of the new seven companions that BioWare has hinted at. As always, our choices as players can affect our relationships with our companions, and can even affect their lives. I’m immediately taken back to that core decision to let the Chargers die or retire in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I stand by what I’ve always said to friends who have played the game: If you let the Chargers die, I have no empathy for what happens to you in the game.

As a longtime Dragon Age fan, I hope with all my heart to see Dorian and Bull in their older years, at least. Their lives after the events of Inquisition were proudly displayed in the game’s epilogue, and even a passing mention of their characters is a necessary part of Dragon Age: The Veilguard to me.

It’s clear that the Dread Wolf will be a prominent part of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and after #TheDreadWolfRises was announced at The Game Awards in December 2018, it comes as a surprise.

In 2023, there was also a video released with the full title of the game to celebrate Dragon Age Day. But BioWare explained why they changed the name. In their blogthey wrote, “…we changed the name because the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll have to bring them together to save all of Thedas.”

After a decade of waiting, it looks like we’re closer than ever to Dragon Age 4. BioWare promises character customization so you can make your own unique hero, epic locations and threats, and an all-new standalone story.

I will be on the edge of my seat on June 11th, and I’m sure you will be too.
