Black Myth Wukong: Best mods and how to install them
Black Myth Wukong broke all records and became one of the most played games on Steam on its first day of release. Although the game has only been out for a few days, you can already find some performance-enhancing mods developed by the modding community; here are some good examples.
Black Myth Wukong SPF Mod
Black Myth Wukong was launched in a polished state and the game runs quite smoothly on most devices. However, some players have reported crashes, lags and other issues that are expected from a new release. The BMWK – SPF mod created by xowny helped players gain performance and fix stuttering without greatly degrading visual fidelity.
After downloading and extracting the files, place them in the b1\Content\Paks\~mods folder in the game’s installation folder. To find the game files on Steam, right click Black Myth Wukong in the library, go to Manageand click Browse local files. Now, go to b1\Contents\Paks. If you haven’t installed mods yet, create a new folder and name it ⁓modes (see image above). Finally, copy the packchunk99-Mods_CustomMod_P.pack file from the BMWK – SPF mod folder and paste it in the ⁓mods folder.
High CPU Priority Mod
Another thing you can do to improve performance is to set the game’s priority to high in the registry editor. Fortunately, there is a simple mod that does this for you. Download the Anti-Stutter – High CPU Priority mod from the NexusMods website. Run the Install BMW High CPU Priority.reg file to enable high CPU priority for Black Myth Wukong. If you face problems later, just run the Uninstall BMW High CPU Priority.reg from the same download folder to restore the changes.
Improved Wukong Visuals Mod
The next mod on this list improves the visual quality by tweaking some post-processing effects like fog, depth of field, lens flare, blooming, and anisotropic filtering. Download the Improved Wukong Visuals mod and paste the ZZFrancisLouis_EWV_P.pak file in the b1\Content\Paks\~mods directory. For the final step, go to Steam, right-click Black Myth Wukong, and click Properties. Under the Launch Options, type -fileopenlog as the starting command for this mod to work properly.
Lowered Wukong Visuals Mod
While Enhanced Wukong Visuals improves the visuals, the Downgraded Wukong Visuals mod can be installed to improve the performance of the game “to almost 50 fps above the usual” as claimed by mod developer FrancisLouis. The installation process is the same as the previous mod, but here you can choose from three different presets according to your preference:
- A little: Gives a framerate boost (about 8 FPS) by changing shadows, rendering distance and LODs.
- Considerable: Increases the parameters mentioned above to a higher extent and gives about 12 extra FPS.
- Meaning: This preset is for gamers with a lower end PC and can give you around a 50 FPS boost by significantly downgrading the graphics.
Simple Realistic Mod for Black Myth Wukong
I also found the Simple Realistic mod created by Chris Rubino which appeared to me to be the best filter for Black Myth Wukong. This shader improves the lighting, details, vibrancy and post-processing effects of the game. Remember that this mod is meant to improve the visuals and not performance. Extract the downloaded files in the b1\Binaries\Win64\ directory (ie, where is the b1-Win64-Shipping.exe). Play the game and use the Del key to enable or disable the umbrella. Also, press on end to bring up the Reshade UI to adjust the color saturation, light intensity and dark level to your liking.
