Breaking down every card shown in the FragPunk trailer
I never knew I needed a card game in my hero shooter, and now that FragPunk exists, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check out our breakdown of each card that is shown in the FragPunk trailer below.
All FragPunk card details from release trailer
There will be over 70 shard cards in Fragpunk, and we got a glimpse of them in the game’s trailer. It’s a long time until 2025 when the game is released, and I’m so excited to see the rest of the cards and figure out the best synergies.
World Flip
If you ever wanted to play on the ceiling, then you should make sure to use World Flip in your matches. This fun card will make sure you have to learn the map layout both the right way and the other way around. Time to pretend I’m Troy Bolton when the world turns upside down (hopefully motion sickness won’t affect me there).
The Embrace of Death
I’m a big fan of the Reaper concept in anything, be it books, movies, or video games. Reaper is one of my favorite characters in Overwatch, for example (even though I’m pretty badass like him). In FragPunk, when an Enemy’s HP falls below 50%, use this card and call the reaper kill that enemy as well as others nearby.
Dragon’s Breath
From the trailer, there are a few guesses I can make about the Dragon Spirit card:
- switch on your primary weapon to a shotgun.
- Increases shotgun damage.
- apply additional fire damage to targets hit by the shotgun.
Whichever of the options it is (or if it’s something completely unrelated to what I mentioned), this card could be very useful to players who like to get close to their enemies and use a shotgun.
Chain Reaction
The chain reaction chip card will chain a lightning attack on multiple players. Although the description doesn’t mention any damage levels or side effects, this card could be very useful if it also stunned enemies with lightning.
Healing Bullets
Healing bullets seems to be a popular mechanic in hero shooters (Skora in Star Wars: Hunters and Anna in Overwatch). I’m not really complaining because I’m not a great shot and would probably drop my teammates if there’s friendly fire (I sure hope not; my friends already fear me in R6).
Spare Supplies
This is another card that has no description, but we can make assumptions about its effect based on the image. As we can see, there are a lot of bullets lined up and 100% in the picture, so we can guess that reserve supplies will affect the amount of ammunition you have
Overtime
The Overtime card will add 30 seconds at the end of the game. If you need a few extra seconds to win, this card will be quite useful. However, if you win and the other team uses it, I can imagine it will be very annoying.
Strange Herbs
This chip card summons special plants: Silent Grass (which probably silences your footsteps), Cloaking Plant (to hide your presence from the enemy), and Bouncing Mushroom (to get you to high places and get the advantage on the enemy).
Big head
Are you struggling to hit head shots? That won’t be a problem when you have the Big Head card. Honestly, I don’t know how I’ll ever stop laughing long enough to hit anything because they look like hilarious Bobbleheads.
Lightprint
Although we do not see a description for this card, we can assume, based on the card photo, that the enemies steps will be enlightened. This makes it much easier to track, although I wonder how effective it will be if the opposing team uses Strange Herbs.
Endless Battle
Infinite Battle seems to have a similar effect to Overtimewith 30 seconds added to your match time. The difference between the two cards is still not obvious.
A very useful card that seems to restore the health of your teammates. Depending on whether it works for players who are in close range to you or if it will work everyone in your team automatically, this card could become meta.
Quick start
A quick start is a quick purchase card that has no description. My best guess is that it gives you a speed boost at the start of the game. I can definitely see this working defense in cases where they need to establish and for the attack team to achieve their goals faster.
Medical Error
You don’t want any Medical Error on your own team, so this card probably affects yours enemies. It could affect and block just one player or the entire team’s healing.
Attack Defense
Offensive Defense is the most confusing card to me. From the obvious, you would assume that it switches the attack team to the Defense team and vice versa. This seems like a very complicated card to realize, but maybe that’s the glory of it. If it works like this, it will definitely bring a lot of chaos to a match.
How to use frag cards in FragPunk
The card mechanic in FragPunk is still largely unknown, as there aren’t many details. From the trailer, we can see that both teams have three cards each. Whether this means you can only use the first three cards you chose at the start or change them each round is unclear.
Another mechanic involved is Ember diamonds. You can inject Ember into your cards, and you seem to be able to give it to your teammates. Cards also have a different number of Ember slots (Strange Herbs has three, while Big Head has four). It will probably change depending on the usefulness of the card.
These Embers could allow more uses of a card or amplify its effects. They could also be a currency that players spend to choose a card to bring into play. Whatever the exact gameplay is, I’m definitely looking forward to it. Am I going to act like I’m in a Yu-gi-oh duel? Most likely. Will that kill me quickly? Even more likely.
