Classic Rockstar Games titles possibly in the works for PS5/PS4

Classic Rockstar Games titles from the PS1, PS2 and PSP could be making their way to the PS5 and PS4. This stems from the iconic Rockstar logo present on the company known for such re-releases.

Implicit Conversions is the game studio that specializes in emulating classic games on newer consoles like PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. They have 10,000’s of games and work on the three major platforms. One fan indicated that they were working with Rockstar, but at this time it is not known in what capacity.

A rock star appears as a partner

On the Implicit Conversions website home page they have the logos of several game publishers they have worked with. Most of those listed have had their copied games released. However, Rockstar Games has not. This was first spotted by u/TURB0_THUNDER on Reddit.

I wanted to see if this was a recent change to their website. Sometimes changes are made to websites and aren’t noticed by fans until weeks or months later. So, I checked the site with the Wayback Machine.

The earliest appearance of the Rockstar logo on their homepage is active October 27, 2023. The snapshot before that was taken on 7th April 2023 and it doesn’t show the Rockstar logo. That means between April and October the Rockstar logo was added. We’re already five months into October, so whatever work they’ve been doing with Rockstar has been going on for a while now.

What might be coming?

Implicit Conversions has done a lot of work for PlayStation. In particular, this work is done for PlayStation Plus Premium, the most expensive part of Sony’s game subscription service. One of the main selling points of this level is the Classic Catalog; a selection of PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PS4 titles playable on the PS4 and PS5.

Each time PlayStation adds games to the Classics Catalog and in 2022 Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare became part of it. However, it was removed before the PS4 re-release. Fans were upset with that decision even before the port was revealed.

Rockstar has released many beloved games on the PS1, PSP and PS2, so it would be great for fans to get them on their PS5 or even PS4. The Classic Catalog has been attacked by fans for the lack of PS1 and PS2 titles in recent times.

Fan made concept of @mnm345x.

To strengthen the offer in 2024 and undoubtedly bring new subscribers, PlayStation could present the likes of the original GTA, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Chinatown Wars, Bully, Manhunt and more.

Don’t like subscription services or just don’t like upgrading? don’t worry When PlayStation releases a classic game at no extra cost to PS+ Premium members, the game is available to buy standalone for a small fee. These vary in price, around $5 each, give or take. This means if you want to pick up a theoretical Rockstar classic re-release, you can do so digitally without a membership.

It will be interesting how Rockstar Game approaches this. They currently have Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars playable on mobile via GTA+. There is also talk of other older Rockstar games like Bully coming to GTA+ as well.

Which iconic Rockstar Games titles would you like to see come to PS4 and PS5 this year? Let us know below in the comments. There is a lot of love for the PSP games and having them come to modern consoles would mean a lot more people could experience them.

It is also possible that Implicit Conversions work in a different area to PlayStation Classics for Rockstar. The classic games collection seems to be the most plausible explanation for the logo addition at the moment but only time will tell.
