Crab God Roles Guide – How to assign roles to Crablings
As you migrate deep into the ocean in Crab God, one of the most important tasks you have is to understand how all the roles of the game work, as they contribute to all aspects of your progress. Here’s our handy guide to explain each role and how best to assign them to your Crablings.
How to assign roles to Crablings in Crab God and when
As soon as you start the first stage of the game, your Crablings will emerge from the Temple of the Tide, healthy and ready to work. To do this, they must be assigned to one of five possible roles, which include:
- Gardener – 10 Favor cost
- Poacher – 10 Favor cost
- a fan – 0 Favor Cost
- Builder – 35 Favor cost
- Hunter – 25 Favor cost
To assign a role to Crabling, click on it to pull up its submenu, which will have either the ‘Assign Role’ or ‘Switch Role’ option From there, the Role Menu will appear (as seen above), showing all five options, their basic functions and their Favor cost. It is no limit to how many Crablings can take a specific role at any one time, so you can have some worshipers, corpses, hunters, or whatever mix you prefer. In that regard, there is no need to stress about who gets what role.
During the day, you want to prioritize attribution Gardeners, Scavengersand Builders, so they can work safely to produce as much Favor and Food as possible. Builders can work on fortifying defenses around the Temple. When night comes, though, you’ll want to switch some Crablings to Hunter roles so they can fend off any incoming enemies. Choose your strongest Crablings (eg health and attack stats) for this.
Given their limited range of responsibilities and priority for generating Favor, Prayers must be used day and night. Try to save at least two or three fans on hand at all timesunless you absolutely must change them to protect the Temple at night (specifically on harder difficulties).
Each role takes care of a specific set of tasks on the stage, so effectively using all of them during your journey is essential to complete a full migration. When it comes to the higher difficulties, where daily cycles and Favor consumption are more unforgiving, knowing how to strategize those roles is especially important.
How each role works in Crab God and best ways to use them
As mentioned before, each role in Crab God comes with its own set of chosen tasks to complete during each stage of the game. While some tasks are more obvious and exclusive to a specific role, there are others that are unspoken that allow all roles to integrate and work effectively together. Finding that perfect balance of integration is what will make your Crabling migration easier.
Side note: some Supplemental Tasks require you to unlock them first with a purified and completed Ritual Stone.
role | Basic Tasks | Supplementary Tasks |
---|---|---|
Gardener | – Grow and Upgrade Plants and Corals | – Explain Caulerpa plants – Clear destructive green mussels |
Poacher | – Take Food and store it in the Temple’s pantry | – Excavate Treasure locations |
a fan | – Generate Favor at the Temple – Cleanse Ritual Stones |
No one |
Builder | – Clear obstacles – Use a hammer to find Favor in the sands – Cooperate with Hunters to attack enemies |
– Build protective Walls (unlocked with Ritual Stone) – Build Traps to damage enemies (unlocked with Ritual Stone) – Open Shells with Hammer to get Favor |
Hunter | – Attack enemies that also spawn additional Food | – Destroy enemy caves scattered throughout the stage |
In addition, certain powerful Trait buffs you gain at the end of each level can also further enhance that integration. For example, various Traits (eg – Wave Rider, For Crab God, Trapper Catcher) allow Gardeners, Scavengers, Builders and Hunters to help get both Food and Favor faster.
