Did Data Center Travel open back up in FFXIV?
While Final Fantasy XIV players around the world were enjoying the Dawntrail expansion and all of its new content, they were also concerned about the reopening of the Data Center journeys, which had temporarily closed due to server congestion. However, with the 7.05 patch drop, many are wondering if the Data Center Travel has opened back up.
What Data Centers can you travel to in FFXIV?
If you were one of the many FFXIV players wondering when in the Seven Hells that worldwide Data Center Travel would reopen, you’re in luck. As of Patch 7.05, travel restrictions that were put in place at Dawntrail’s launch to combat server congestion have been lifted, and you can now travel to any Data Center or World Visit anywhere you wish. This is especially happy news for players on Dynamis who have essentially been in quarantine since the newer Data Center was added.
However, there is a small catch. According to the announcement made on The Lodestonewhile in-game travel has reopened everywhere, new regulations have also been put in place to help promote an “even distribution of players” across each World and Data Center.
Based on World Rankings, this means that if a World Server in a certain Data Center is designated as “congested”, the number of players allowed to Data Center/World Visit travel to that World will be substantially lower than that of “Preferred” Worlds. , which experience lower overall server traffic.
The Lodestone proclamation dictates it thus:
Standard Worlds with no Congested Worlds within the same Logical Data Center
- World Visitor Login Capacity: Standard
- Data Travel Logging Capacity: Standard
Standard Worlds with one or more Congested Worlds within the same Logical Data Center
- World Visitor Login Capacity: Standard
- Log-in Travel Data Center Capacity: Greatly Reduced
New and Preferred Worlds
- World Visitor Login Capacity: Standard
- Data Travel Logging Capacity: Increased
Jammed Worlds
- World Visitor Login Capacity: Reduced
- Log-in Travel Data Center Capacity: Greatly Reduced
While it may not necessarily be the return to complete normality that we would like, this is definitely to ensure that server traffic does not fluctuate and increase to the point that restrictions would have to go back into place. Whether these new regulations are permanent remains to be seen, but they will remain for the foreseeable future, at least until all servers (especially the newer ones) are balanced.
If you want to travel to a Data Center and/or World Server that is known to be regularly congested, I suggest traveling there during off-peak hours (early morning or late night). If you’re coming from another congested World, be careful when you want to return home, because you might find yourself unexpectedly stuck until the traffic eases.
Also, when you try to travel to a known congested Data Center, some World Servers in it may be unavailable (as seen above) because they are experiencing significantly high traffic. However, we have learned that you can still travel to these servers once you are actively in that Data Center. You might get a traffic-related error or two but a few tries should get you where you want to go.
