Fans may remember that they could choose between two accents in Dragon Age: Inquisition. This feature is brought back for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, allowing players to further customize their version of Rook – the only protagonist players can control.
When you land on the customization screen to create your character, you’ll be able to add a lot more detail than ever before, including new hairstyles and eye colors. BioWare seems to have gone full steam ahead with the character customization in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which is welcome after the decade-long wait their fans have had to endure.
As with previous Dragon Age games, you’ll be able to choose from a British or American accent for your character. During the game, they will be called “Rook”, which is a completely gender neutral choice that follows the Warden, Hawke and the Inquisitor. There are also whispers that you’ll be able to choose your Rook’s pronouns and mix and match the female and male voice options to the female and male body options.
Having standard British and American accents in games helps with localization – this is the term used when a game uses different terms and accents to market itself to audiences in different parts of the world.
We’ve seen a lot of localization issues in Wuthering Waves these days because the game’s team is based in China and the translators can’t seem to keep up with the players. Many players have complained on Reddit about localization/translation issues since the game launched on May 22, 2024.
There’s no word yet on what other languages the game will be available in, or if those languages will also have accents to choose from.
