Fallout 4 Next Gen Update 2 improves console performance but not the mood of PC gamers

Following the worldwide success of the Fallout TV show, Bethesda implemented the next-gen improvements to Fallout 4. Refreshing the visuals of the 2015 title, of course, brought with it a lot of bugs and problems, so today we received Fallout 4’s Next Gen Update 2. While console players are mostly satisfied with the improvements, the same cannot be said for the PC community.

Xbox and PS5 players are mostly satisfied as they now have more options to adjust images. On the other hand, PC users lament the lack of quality improvements. It seems that members of the modding community are the loudest, as most of the improvements have been addressed through unofficial mods. Therefore, the comments on Twitter and Reddit were not really kind (to say the least). If all those Fallout 4 improvements aren’t enough for some fans, there’s another Fallout game coming sooner rather than later.

The focus of the latest Fallout 4 patch was to allow players to have more control over graphics settings. With more options for setting images, you can now strike a balance between images and performance. In addition to more customizable graphics settings, Bethesda has addressed many known bugs that affected gameplay after the first Fallout 4 Next Gen Update. Below you will find Fallout 4 Next Gen Update 2 notes.

Patch Highlights

  • Frame Rate Target
    • Frame Rate Target lets you choose between 30, 40 and 60 (default). It is important to note that to select 40, your screen must be able to support 120hz.
  • Visual and Performance Prioritization
    • You can now choose between Visuals and Performance (default) while trying to maintain a frame rate target. If you choose a Frame Intention Target of 60, we recommend choosing Performance. Both modes can adjust internal resolution dynamically when scenes or action become heavier.
  • Please note that both modes can only be changed from the main menu.

  • General stability improvements
  • Fixed a visual issue with certain image spaces
  • Auto HDR is re-enabled (Xbox Series S|X)
