Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail is fast approaching and director Naoki’s recent media tour
“Yoshi-P” Yoshida and his team revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming content. Among those details was some unexpected news about glamor accessibility for Viper and Pictomancer, specifically gear from previous expansions.
FFXIV’s Viper and Pictomancer will first receive fancy weapons from previous expansions
While job changes are something that is always consistent in FFXIV, one notable drawback with new jobs added to Final Fantasy XIV over the years has been the lack of unique weapon rewards from various types of combat content, specifically combat content from expansions prior to those newer jobs. However, with the launch of Dawntrail and its subsequent patch content, that will finally change.
When pointedly asked if Viper and Pictomancer will get access to relic and trial weapon charms from previous expansions, FFXIV director Yoshi-P confirmed that not only will they get those, but they will actually be first in line for them with Dawntrail. Meanwhile, other recent jobs, such as Gunbreaker, Dancer, Reaper, and Sage, will follow suit with much-needed endgame weapon glamours.

Not only that, according to a prominent FFXIV player and streamer Mr happy, who also interviewed Yoshi-P, Viper and Pictomancer will also get first dibs on fancy weapons for all current Ultimate Raids. This means that Dawntrail’s new jobs should receive fancy weapons from Unending Coil of Bahamut to The Omega Protocol Ultimate Raids. Yoshi-P hasn’t stated exactly when these will be available, whether it’s at the launch of 7.0 or later, but it’s actively in the works.
As for why Viper and Pictomancer take priority over other existing jobs, as Mrhappy also speculates, from a development point of view, it’s probably because the team is hard focused right now on assets for those specific jobs, so they have the time and opportunity to do it sooner than late However, the initiative is to expand it for all jobs lacking these weapons during the expansion.
Many FFXIV players have waited years to get their hands on some of the game’s coolest weapons for the newer jobs they enjoy playing, and now that community plea is finally being addressed. The Dawntrail expansion launches globally on July 2nd, with Early Access on June 28th for those who pre-order.
