First Descendants players are impressed with post-launch support
Nexon doesn’t have the best reputation after the problems with its games Sudden Attack and Maple Story. Their games are full of microtransactions that have gotten them into hot water before. This reputation worried players going into The First Descendant, but it looks like Nexon is actually doing great things with in-game support post-launch.
On July 11, 2024, the team at The First Descendant released an update detailing all the changes made in their 1.0.2 warm up. For those who don’t know, a warmup is a patch or update this is added to the game to provide instant fixes to some issues without players needing to download the larger files that come with a full patch. A Hotfix will sometimes require a small update to your game, but it takes seconds to complete.
In this patch update, Nexon tweaked several features of the game, including the addition of matchmaking for infiltration operations set to Hard mode. This feature was not available before, which made these missions unnecessarily difficult.
Since The First Descendant is a game where running out of ammo is often a problem, I can’t imagine trying to take on an infiltration operation by myself on Hard mode. TPS games aren’t my usual thing, but I enjoy the cooperative nature of The First Descendant. It felt weird to have missions that I couldn’t open up to other players around me or join in to help Descendants who were also going for the same mission.
Another huge change that players are happy about is the immunity spheres on bosses. These spheres, which would float over bosses during missions, had to be destroyed in a certain order. That’s no longer an issue – you can destroy them however you want, which means you don’t waste time trying to hit one target.
Another one highlights includes:
- Tripled drop rates for rare base materials from encrypted vaults.
- Elite Vulgus enemies dropping Encrypted vault-exclusive materials.
- Reduced hack time for Kingston’s ‘Vulgus Data Transmitter’ Hack Mission.
- Slower voice lines for the Successor Teacher (who used to speak so fast players couldn’t keep up).
- Longer party invitation message pop-up time.
The developers also announced: “We are aware that the community is concerned about possible nerfs to the infinite magazine builds of Tamer and Gley.
This meta is very strong, but since it’s in the scope of what the Dev Team has planned, there are no immediate plans to do so.”
It’s nice to see a team react to a strong build like this instead of immediately nerfing it. As someone who used to play Overwatch… A lot… Seeing Mercy go over an entire team to the abilities she now has was tough. Devs are way too quick to nerf their characters.
Players across various Reddit posts on the Heat are extremely happy with the updates, with fans saying they are “excited about the future of the game,” and comparing The First Descendant to Warframe and Destiny 2 if updates like this continue.
