FiveM Is Coming To GTA Online On Console This Year It’s Confirmed

FiveM, the platform used for GTA RP among other modifications to GTA Online is set to come to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles according to a new report. Not only is it changing GTA Online forever, but it looks like it’s coming sooner than you think. There is a lot of speculation and conflicting accounts going on in the GTA community and we will do our best to cover all sides.

A bit of background, Rockstar Games acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, a year ago almost to the day. The announcement sparked excitement and wonder about how Rockstar could use FiveM for GTA VI and even bring it to consoles. This was a major surprise given past actions against modders by Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive.

This new report also alleges various issues that occurred in the workplace before and after Rockstar Games bought the group. There were also responses made by FiveM’s founder and current Community Moderator, which will be shared later in the article.

FiveM founder is not part of acquisition negotiations

Fan site GTA Focal published a a report on Tuesday that made several major claims from sources they spoke with. First, we will look at the acquisition of Cfx.re and how they appear to be internal issues.

Apparently, FiveM creator NTA was not in any kind of talks with Rockstar and Take-Two about the sale of Cfx.re until it was almost finalized. Meetings of any kind were allegedly conducted behind her back since late 2022. GTA Focal claims that Rockstar Games bought Cfx.re for $20 million.

Rockstar Games bought companies in the past like Angel Studios for $41m in 2002. This became Rockstar San Diego of Red Dead Redemption fame. Most recently, they bought Santa Monica-based motion capture specialists Standard Deviation. We reported how Standard Deviation has since become Rockstar Games LA and hired for NPCs.

What happened when Rockstar owned them

After the completed purchase of the Cfx.re team, Rockstar Games reportedly offered all members to work at their nearest office or work from home. This was because everyone who worked at Cfx.re worked remotely.

About half a year into the Cfx.re owned by Rockstar Games, its founder was reportedly “fired twice” for reasons not specified. We only know from the GTA Focal report that NTA had complaints filed against them and breached a contract. There is also a brief shutdown of FiveM placed on NTA.

Take-Two reportedly communicated at one point that NTA’s actions “affected millions of players and damaged Rockstar’s credibility, as they promised the acquisition would improve service.” The founder has since left the team she created.

One former FiveM developer claims that Rockstar thought they were a bad acquisition for various reasons despite the sheer talent. Another told GTA Focal that it was “an extremely toxic environment where we had to suffer from serious mismanagement”.

Some of the accounts reported on by GTA Focal have been met with controversy online. It is impossible to see who is telling the truth and whether there are inconsistencies or misinformation used to strengthen a certain side.

FiveM founder responds

NTA, the founder of Cfx.re/FiveM responded to the claims presented in GTA Focal’s article. The creator of FiveM published a a series of Tweets explaining that she “had nothing to do with said article” and that it sounds like it was “barely proofread” and “full of venting”.

She went on to say “most of the content, as much as it came from me.. seems to be cobbled together from forum posts and my old tweet thread.. and hyperbole from people with irrational anger at things”.

FiveM coming this year to GTA Online officially?

According to ex-Five developers that GTA Focal spoke with, Rockstar Games was working on “FiveM Killer”. This was about 2 years before buying Cfx.re. Now that they own FiveM, they might take that and put a form of it within GTA Online.

GTA Focal says that sources have told them that a new creative project is coming to GTA Online in early Fall, which is not being done by the FiveM team but rather Rockstar itself. It looks like it will be PC only to begin with with the article reading “upcoming consoles following soon” afterwards.

It was just last month that we reported how Rockstar put a new one public_mission_creator file inside the latest GTA Online update. We reported in February how Rockstar Games hired many people for the FiveM team and to work on the “Creator Platform“.

Sources also speculated that this project could be some kind of “FiveM conversion tool”. GTA Focal also speculates that a transition could see Rockstar take full control of FiveM, meaning they own all the content and can monetize it.

The CEO of Take-Two Interactive said last year “We’d like to monetize that if we can” in relation to GTA RP and modding. Other popular games like Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite feature healthy crafting economies. GTA Online also has it in the form of RP servers, mods, YouTubers, Streamers etc but not officially in-game.

Considering that GTA Online is still popular but nearing the end of its life cycle, Rockstar could start testing things like this new content creation project before GTA 6. We are over a year away from GTA VI release and content for GTA Online may be slowing down . . A public “mission creator” could revitalize the game as fans wait for the next iteration of GTA Online in GTA VI.

Cfx.re moderator aims to close claims

While there was no statement from Cfx.re, Rockstar Games or Take-Two, a Community Moderator for Cfx.re released Tweets scolding FiveM coming to console. They said:

“Please don’t believe anything about “FiveM on console” unless it comes from an official statement, whether through the discord guild, forums, or R* statement.”

It is worth noting “Most Community Moderators are not employees of Cfx.re” according to to this Community Moderator. Their statement is also not official posted by Cfx.re as a team.
