Gears of War: E-Day will show a more vulnerable side of Marcus and Dom

The upcoming Gears of Wars prequel E-Day will show Marcus and Dom at their most vulnerable; new Xbox Wire post goes into detail about how the game will portray the two iconic series leads in a more raw way than any of the previous games.

As you may have noticed the trailer, we will see younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago appear together. At this point in their lives, they are more bound by loss than the bromance we see much later. Marcus was best friends with Dom’s brother Carlos, who was killed in battle while the former was present. The loss of a best friend and brother has been difficult for both Marcus and Dom, so they are trying to navigate through this together.

“When the game opens, there’s supposed to be peace on Sera, and they’re trying to figure out life without this person they both loved,” says series director Nicole Fawcette. The loss of Carlos makes them vulnerable in different ways that we will see in the game according to Fawcette, who calls it a modern interpretation of these two iconic characters. “There’s a weight that they carry between them, and that creates a really interesting tension as they navigate their own relationship.”

Marcus and Dom’s bond was an important part of the first three Gears of War games and the fact that we get a proper origin story for both of them and their unbreakable bond will be exciting, to say the least. With the appearance of the Locusts on Sera, they will have to fight monsters for their survival while also mourning Carlos, which can create many complexities for them emotionally. Based on this, it looks like E-Day will provide a gritty and engaging story that many fans of the series have been craving for quite some time.
