The delay from GTA 6 to May 2026 not only affected fans but the rest of the industry. From retail to developers, Rockstar’s announcement hit hard. Although not every player cares about the new GTA game, it is the most expected game of all time and it will eat most of the dollars and time that anyone can spend on games when it releases.
The delay of GTA 6 was “inevitable” according to Rockstar sources by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. However, that did not stop the rest of the industry planning its release for this fall, as Take-Two said for over a year.
Frightened delay
Schreier has since been revealed in Item Some understanding of what happened with other big video game publishers. According to people he spoke with game developers, there is a “panic”.
An example given is that this company currently makes a multiplayer game. It was originally intended to release in Fall 2025, but came out of the GTA Way to Spring 2026. Now GTA you take that window, which they risk delaying the game once more, which is very expensive. Or, they make a shot at a launch near GTA VI. The issue of releasing GTA you could be choking. There are only so much money and time to go around.
Another delay?
That’s not everything. While many fans rely on Rockstar hitting that March 26, 2026, anything could happen in the following year. Yet another delay for later in 2026 is not impossible.
Jason shares that some developers would be happy to see another delay, meaning that they can in turn postpone their games by 2027. This is an additional 6-12 months of production. While others “pray”, there is no other delay. You can read Jason’s full article here.
One of the games hit by them delay is another Rockstar title: Max Payne’s remake 1 & 2. It was aimed at release by the end of June 2026 according to analysts. Considering Rockstar publishes and market the game, we probably won’t see it until after GTA you take over.
This whole situation is quite fascinating even if a little scary. GTA You are getting closer to release after about 7 years in development so far, which is less than people think. To type people, Rockstar may release a port of GTA IV to current gene consoles this year if you believe a source of an insidious at Rockstar.
