GTA 6 Will Be Unaffected by Game Actors Strike
Last night, the union that represents many of the video game voice and performance actors announced that members would go on strike starting today. SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) announced the news via their website.
SAG-AFTRA revealed that they are negotiating with the parent company of Rockstar Games among other big players in the game such as Activision, Disney, EA, Insomniac Games, WB Games and more.
All this caused hysteria online as fans worried that GTA 6 might be hit hard and lead to a considerable delay. Matters were not helped by some miscommunication on what may have been on the union end. Fortunately it has now been explained by someone in the corner of the game publishers.
Clarity given next important concern
According to Audrey Cooling, a representative of the game companies, GTA VI will not be part of the strike. Kotaku received this “I can confirm GTA VI is exempt” statement from her. In addition, an additional clarification that any game already developed before September 2023 is also exempt.
This means that any project that is not struck can be worked on by union actors. If actors still need to do voice and acting, they can work without problems for Rockstar Games in GTA VI.
Last year, investors asked Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick whether GTA VI would be affected by a looming SAG-AFTRA strike Mr. Zelnick said at the time that GTA 6 was “completely protected” from any SAG-AFTRA strike for voice/performance actors. Take-Two’s share price fell after yesterday’s news, but now that GTA VI is exempt, investors can rest easy.
