GTA V is said to be coming to Xbox’s PC Game Pass

GTA V could soon arrive on Xbox’s PC Game Pass subscription. The second best-selling game of all time has been part of Xbox Game Pass several times now with the most recent stint from July 2023 to January 2024. However, it has never been available to PC gamers who subscribe to Game Pass.

Details about this development and how it works have been revealed by a reputable Rockstar insider. Known in the community as Thesis2, he claims that Rockstar Games is “preparing” GTA V to work with PC Game Pass. This must have it ready in case they decide to put it on PC Game Pass.

How will it work?

Since Tez2 shared this information on Twitter, many fans have asked about how it will work. Thesis2 explains that you will launch GTA V through the Xbox App on PC much like other PC Game Pass titles. Then it goes through the Rockstar Games Launcher.

This is how EA games work for those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate; you can launch with the Xbox App and then go through the EA App.

If GTA V comes to PC Game Pass, it will be the PC version of GTA V and GTA Online, not the Xbox version playable on PC. So, it will lack Xbox Series X|S exclusive features and lobbies will be PC gamers only.

How long could it last on Game Pass?

Usually, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are part of Xbox Game Pass for about 6 months before going on for a year. If GTA V does indeed make its way to PC Game Pass, it would be a safe bet to assume that it will have 6 months on the service.

An Xbox leak revealed that they were wondering about PC Game Pass GTA V

Last year, Xbox suffered a major document leak due to the legal battle over its acquisition by Activision Blizzard. It revealed how much it costs them to get GTA V on Xbox Game Pass. The expected payment requested by Take-Two would be $12-15 million per month. Considering it’s usually there for half a year, GTA V on Game Pass costs about $72-90 million each time.

Xbox also had a “wildcard” section asking if they would make a PC in the future. PC Game Pass saw big growth but still a lack of overall numbers. Putting GTA V in there might help that a bit.

Also in the document was a Red Dead Redemption 2 queue with interesting information. The wildcard section said “Doubtful on computer…or manipulate with account link?” With both of these wild card divisions, it looks like Xbox is getting its ask after a few years. If GTA V proves to be a PC Game Pass success, perhaps Red Dead Redemption 2 will follow next.

It is currently unknown when GTA V will come to PC Game Pass or return to Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Streaming. As and when Xbox announces anything, it will be reported on RockstarINTEL.
