Helldivers 2 continues to go strong as the game dominates the US sales charts in second place in April, maintaining the same position from March. The game has outsold many notable titles including Modern Warfare 3 and Sea of Thieves.
This was shared by Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Industry Advisor at Circana, who detailed all about the top selling games in the US. Along with Helldivers 2’s strong position in the charts, Arrowhead’s title remains the best-selling premium game of the year so far. Additionally, the game carried over its second place ranking from March despite dollar sales in April falling by more than 70% (compared to March). For the month of April, PlayStation-exclusive Stellar Blade is the best-selling title, and just below Helldivers 2 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Helldivers 2 was a hit on PlayStation no doubt because the game is still in the top 10 ranking for active PlayStation users at fifth for April (gaining from sixth in March). In addition, it topped the charts for active users on Steam in April as well. It’s still unclear if it will be at the top in May after the PSN account linking controversy earlier this month, although Sony has backtracked on this decision. It will definitely be interesting to see if it stays on top or drops a place or two.
It’s easy to see why Helldivers 2 topped sales charts because the game is just pure mindless fun; taking down bugs and robots alone and with friends is simply addictive, while the visuals and shooting are the cherry on top.
