Helldivers 2 players are pumped to go full Pyromaniac with Freedom’s Flame Warbond

Arrowhead has released the trailer for the upcoming Helldivers 2 Warbond, Freedom’s Flame, and to say gamers are excited is an understatement. The ability to dispense jellied gasoline to any Bugs and Boots that dare cross your path sounds like a hell of a good time to the community, and to me.

The community response to Freedom’s Flame has been largely positive, with many people eager to awaken their inner arsonist and get to work clearing all those rightfully owned Super Earth land claims of their various encroachers. (Native inhabitants.)

Some people are already planning their mighty fantasies, dreaming of making even a faction as biblically mint as the Salamanders of Warhammer fame.

With Helldivers already having a number of fire related Stratagems on offer, with the Incendiary Mines and Napalm Strike Stratagems as a few examples, some players are already gearing up to fully adapt to an all fire build.

But what about people who are not so happy with what is shown here? Steam user Guardian_Angel explained his views on the matter.

“I disagree. It’s just another low-powered war bond that brings nothing fresh or effective to the table… …Primary and secondary flamethrowers that work identically to stratagem one… Okay. Why?”

While this comment may seem harsh at first, there are some really valid points raised here. Helldivers 2 has long been known for having unnecessary additions that don’t expand on any core concepts in any way. There were a lot of weapons added that are simply modifications of pre-existing weapons, and here with the new fire-based shotgun that’s even more nasty, because we already have fire based shotgun.

Another user, hiits_alvin, also raises a great point by saying “kind of dull because flames aren’t good against bots?” which is completely true. Flames are absolutely great against the Bugs, but against Boots made of you know… steel, they were never that good. Unless there are some major changes made to these weapons or their interactions with the Boots, we may already have a case of the new items in this Warbond being useless in 50% of the content on offer, which is not something anyone wants, especially because we are still waiting for the release of the next major faction.

So with some generally positive community feedback, and some perfectly valid criticisms raised, we’ll have to wait and see how people feel about this new Warbond proper come release. Despite my hesitations and some of my frustrations with the direction Helldivers has gone in, I still find myself eagerly anticipating each new content drop, and this time is no different.
