How does the banner and mercy system work in Zenless Zone Zero?
Zenless Zone Zero has a gacha system where you can draw for Agents (characters), W-Engines (weapons) and Bangboo. By understanding the mechanics of banner, mercy and soft mercy for all banners, you can better manage a limited number of super currency and plan your draws.
All standard, mercy and soft mercy mechanics in Zenless Zone Zero
Exclusive Channel (limited banner)
The Exclusive Channel is a limited banner that regularly rotates with new and old characters based on rate. The lineup will usually include one S-rank and two A-rank agents – the game’s equivalent to five-stars and four-stars. Any S-Rank Agent featured in the Exclusive Channel will not be added to the standard lineup.
While the S-Rank pool consists exclusively of Agents, you will find a mix of Agents and W-Engines from A-Rank and below.
ZZZ Exclusive Channel Pity & Soft Pity System
The Exclusive Channel guarantees the following.
- One S-Rank Agent every 90 pulls
- Base probability: 0.6%
- Probability including guarantee: 1.6%
- The higher probability taking into account the guaranteed rate is due to the presence of soft mercy at about 76 pulls (based on Genshin Impact calculations, which adopt the same rates). Gentle mercy is a mechanic where the probability of getting an S-Rank unit increases cumulatively every time you draw. This means that at 76 pulls forward, it is more efficient to do single pulls versus 10 pulls.
- One A-Rank Agent every 10 pulls
- Total base probability: 9.4% (including both Agent and W-Engine rates)
- Agent base probability: 7.05%
- Base probability of W engine: 2.35%
- Probability including guarantee: 14%
Additionally, ZZZ offers a 50-50 mercy system reminiscent of other HoYoverse games. The mechanics are as follows:
- If the first S-Rank Agent you draw is not the featured character on tax-up, your next S-Rank Agent is guaranteed to be the featured character on tax-up. The next draw after a guarantee has a 50% chance of becoming the featured character, and the same pattern will continue.
- If the first A-Rank you draw is not one of the featured characters on evaluation, your next A-Rank is guaranteed to be one of the featured characters on evaluation. The next draw after a guarantee has a 50% chance of becoming the featured character, and the same pattern will continue.
The mercy counter carries over to all Exclusive Channel banner rotations, so you don’t have to worry about the counter resetting at any time. However, the mercy counter is not shared across any other standard.
W-Engine Channel (limited weapons standard)
The W-Engine Channel is a rotating limited banner that regularly updates with new W-Engines (weapons), usually featuring the signature weapon best paired with the Agent on rotation. The lineup typically includes an S-rank W engine and two A-rank W engines, and the outstanding S-rank will not be added to the standard banner after the gacha period ends.
The flagship lineup consists of S-Rank W-Engines and both A-Rank Agents and W-Engines.
ZZZ W-Engine Channel Pity & Soft Pity System
The W-Engine Channel guarantees the following.
- One S rank W engine every 80 pulls
- Base probability: 1%
- Probability including guarantee: 2%
- The higher probability taking into account the guaranteed rate is due to the presence of gentle mercy that starts somewhere around 60+ pulls. We will provide the exact number once more data is collected.
- One A rank W engine every 10 pulls
- Total base probability: 15% (including both Agent and W-Engine rates)
- Agent base probability: 1.875%
- Base probability of W engine: 13.125%
- Probability including guarantee: 18%
Additionally, ZZZ offers a 75-25 mercy system for W engines with the following mechanics:
- The first S-Rank W-Engine you draw has a 75% chance of being the featured weapon.
- If the first S-Rank W-Engine you draw isn’t the featured weapon on a tax-up, your next S-Rank W-Engine is guaranteed to be the featured character on a tax-up. The next draw after a guarantee has a 75% chance of becoming the featured weapon, and the same pattern will continue.
- If the first A-Rank W Engine you draw isn’t one of the featured weapons on rate-up, your next A-Rank is guaranteed to be one of the featured weapons on boost. The next draw after a guarantee has a 75% chance of becoming the featured weapon, and the same pattern will continue.
The mercy counter carries over to all W-Engine standard rotationsso there is no pressure to achieve mercy at every rotation.
Stable Channel (standard banner)
The Stable Channel is Zenless Zone Zero’s version of the standard banner, with mechanics familiar to most gacha players. It includes a fixed line of both Agents and W engines that can be pulled all year round. The catch is that you can’t do any targeted summoning, so every pull involves quite a bit of RNG.
ZZZ Stable Channel New Player Discount
New players get a 20% discount for the first five sets of ten-draws, which cost eight Master Ribbons (versus the usual 10). Additionally, your first S-Rank is guaranteed at 50 pullsand it will be an an agent. I highly recommend taking advantage of this discount to get your first S-Rank Agent, as most work quite well.
ZZZ Stable Channel Pity & Soft Pity System
The Stable Channel guarantees the following.
- One S-Rank every 90 pulls
- Total base probability (Agents and W engines combined): 0.6%
- Base probability for Agents: 0.3%
- Base probability for W engines: 0.3%
- Total odds including guarantee: 1.6%
- The higher probability taking into account the guaranteed rate is due to the presence of soft mercy at about 76 pulls (based on Genshin Impact calculations, which adopt the same rates). Gentle mercy is a mechanic where the probability of getting an S-Rank unit increases cumulatively every time you draw. This means that at 76 pulls forward, it is more efficient to do single pulls versus 10 pulls.
- One A rank every 10 pulls
- Total base probability (Agents and W engines combined): 9.4%
- Agent base probability: 4.7%
- Base probability of W engine: 4.7%
- Probability including guarantee: 14.4%
After doing 300 pulls from the Stable Channel, you will get the chance to choose any S-Rank Agent you want for free.
Bangboo Channel (limited Bangboo banner)
Bangboo are friends that will help you in Hollow Explorations. They provide stat upgrades and have unique abilities that can be used in battle. The Bangboo Channel has mechanics similar to the W-Engine limited banner, offering a rotating lineup with one S-Rank Bangboo and two A-Rank Bangboos.
The currency used to pull the Bangboo Channel is called Coup-En. Since the final closed beta, it can only be obtained in-game.
ZZZ Bangboo Channel Pity & Soft Pity System
The Bangboo Channel guarantees the following.
- One S-Rank Bangboo every 80 pulls
- Base probability: 1%
- Probability including guarantee: 2%
- The higher probability taking into account the guaranteed rate is due to the presence of gentle mercy that starts somewhere around 60+ pulls. We will provide the exact number once more data is collected.
- One A rank Bangboo every 10 pulls
- Total base probability: 15%
- Probability including guarantee: 18%
Additionally, ZZZ offers a 75-25 mercy system for the Bangboo Channel. The mechanics are as follows:
- The first S-Rank Bangboo you draw has a 75% chance of being the featured Bangboo.
- If the first S-Rank Bangboo you draw is not the featured Bangboo on rate increase, your next S-Rank Bangboo is guaranteed to be the featured Bangboo on rate increase. The next draw after a guarantee has a 75% chance of becoming the featured Bangboo, and the same pattern will continue.
- If the first A-rank Bangboo you draw is not one of the featured Bangboo on rate increase, your next A-rank is guaranteed to be one of the featured Bangboo on evaluation. The next draw after a guarantee has a 75% chance of becoming the featured Bangboo. Future draws will follow the same pattern.
The pity counter for the Bangboo Channel will do take over to new rotations but is not shared with any other standard.
