How the Golden Snitch works in Quidditch Champions

The Golden Snitch is one of the most iconic pieces of lore in the world of Harry Potter, and it makes its grand return to the Kidditch performance in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. However, this time it works a little differently, so here’s our handy guide to how the Golden Snitch works in Quidditch Champions.

What does the Golden Snitch do in Quidditch Champions?

If you know the original Harry Potter book series and its extensive lore, the Golden Snitch is synonymous with Quidditch and this winged golden ball the size of a walnut traditionally serves as the sport’s endgame challenge for Seekers. Those who manage to catch it would give an amazing 150 points for their team and the match will automatically end. This was even the case in the much-loved game of 2003 Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

However, the Golden Snitch works quite differently in the “spiritual successor” Quidditch Champions, which may surprise some. As you first learn in the game’s Tutorial mode, a Seeker is still tasked with catching the Golden Snitch before the Seeker on the opposing team does. As soon as the notification pops up that the Snitch has appeared on the field, you can quickly switch to your team’s Seeker to actively pursue it if you prefer not to rely on bot controls.

Once you have successfully spotted the Golden Snitch on the field, it will begin to release trail of gold rings that you can fly through. These will give you an extended speed boost that keeps up as you continue to fly through those rings, and also fills the “catch meter” visible under the model of the snitch. Once the gauge is full and turns blueyou can grab the Snitch as soon as you get close enough and press the appropriate button.

However, the rewards for catching the Snitch in Quidditch Champions have been significantly changed. Instead of the traditional 150 points, a catch will only give your team 30 points (as seen above). Also, the match does not automatically end with the capture of the Snitch by either team.

Rather, once caught the Snitch phase will last a temporary cooling and will restart after that cooldown is over. At that point you can chase down the Snitch again, and do this as many times as you can before the match timer reaches zero.

While this may take away some of the dramatic impact of catching the Golden Snitch, it still makes accumulating points in matches more doable beyond just scoring with your Chasers. Quidditch Champions has certainly done its part to make all positions in the game feel accessible.
