Lightyear Frontier introduces you to some friendly galactic neighbors like Ulf and Diane, but to do business with them you need a place for them to land. If you’re wondering how to do it, here’s our handy guide on how to build the Outpost building in Lightyear Frontier.
How to make an Outpost in Lightyear Frontier
To build an Outpost (also called Luna Lander) for Ulf and Diane in Lightyear Frontier, you must first have made successful contact with Ulf and/or Diane to start their questlines. Once you’ve done that, the blueprint for Outpost Landing will unlock in your Build a Menu.
To build an Outpost, you need the following building materials:
- 4 x Aluminum Frames
- Made by Assembling with Aluminum Rods (found in Pine Heights area)
- 2 x Aluminum Electronics
- Made with Assembler with Aluminum Rods (found in Pine Heights area) and Copper Wire (made with Copper Ore found in Edge Cliffs area).
An outpost requires a large amount of space, which is freed from obstacles (eg – bushes, stones). Once you’ve built one, you’ll be prompted assign Ulf or Diane to it. You can do this (in or out of your mech) with interacting with the keyboard tower on the platform and selecting either Ulf or Diane from the pop-up menu.
Once done, your chosen neighbor’s ship will land on the Outpost platform. Once they appear outside the ship with a yellow icon above their head, you can interact to start a dialog and their respective questline.
Be careful, in order for both Ulf and Diane to visit your farm, you need to build two Outposts, one for each of them. This means that you will need a total 8 x Aluminum Frames and 4 x Aluminum Electronics for both.
How to unlock Ulf and Diane quest lines in Lightyear Frontier
Whether you’re starting a fresh rescue in Lightyear Frontier or continuing from seasoned playthroughs, there are a number of unspoken goals you must accomplish before you can make initial contact with Ulf and Diane.
Side Note: You no longer need to build the Radio Tower to be able to contact Ulf.
In order for Ulf to contact you, you must go and collect at least one node of Copper Orewhich is found in abundance at the Edge Cliffs area of the map. Once you’ve done that, the next day, Ulf will automatically contact you about a new business venture.
If you find that he is not contacting you at all, try restarting the game and the respective save file. If you have ‘Speech’ completely disabled in Settings, this can also potentially disable Ulf or Diane’s introduction, so we suggest turning it back on and/or restarting the game afterwards.
Meanwhile, to get Diane to contact you, go explore any fully restored areas of the map, excluding the Meadows, Pine Heights, and Edge Cliffs. Look for a shining egg lying on the ground and put it in your inventory. Diane will then immediately contact you about said egg, and ask to visit your farm to inspect it.
Once outposts are established for them on your farm, be aware that just like Lola the Trader, they will leave in the evening and you won’t be able to interact with them until the next morning.
