The Mosasaurus lives exclusively in the saltwater regions of the Ancient Islandwhich was introduced in a recent update. While it doesn’t have a specific guaranteed birth point, there are ways to improve your chances.
at night is the most favorable time to fish the Mosasaurus, with foggy weather further increasing the probability. While any saltwater area on the Ancient Island can yield results, I found the waterfall on the west side of the island (the one that contains the entrance to the Ancient Archives) to be the most productive place. Fishing here also presents opportunities to encounter other mythical creatures, such as the Colossal Squid and Meg’s Fangs – although repeated catches of Meg’s Fangs can test your patience. They certainly did for me.
It is worth noting that luck can sometimes exceed optimal conditions. While the recommended bait for the Mosasaurus is the rare one Truffle WormI managed to catch one using the more common one Worm bait on a clear night.
How to Catch the Mosasaurus
Once you’ve hooked a Mosasaurus, catching it is no small feat. This mythical fish significantly slows your progress, reducing the winding speed by -75%and its constant movement requires skill and precision. Hooking can lead to a protracted struggle, but persistence pays off.
The Mosasaurus offers generous rewards upon capture. Landing one gives 3,000 XPand its value averages C$6,160.60calculated based on its weight (estimated at C$0.5357 per kg). With an average weight of 9,000 kgit’s a lucrative catch.
If you’re having trouble hooking the Mosasaurus, consider using a Smokescreen Totem (found at the back of Mushgrove Swampnear the exit from the Alligator Swamp) to push every variable in your favor. The weather and celestial cycle are two things you can check if you have the right Totems. If you don’t want to wait the night, take the Sundial Totem (from the cave on Sunstone Island), too.
