How to fix Gray Zone Warfare performance issues

Currently Gray Zone Warfare is sitting at an alarming Mixed Reviews standing on Steam, mainly due to the poor performance issues plaguing the game. For those looking to improve stuttering and poor fidelity, don't worry because we've got you covered. Let's find out how to fix those pesky GZW performance issues.

How to improve FPS in Gray Zone Warfare

Improving FPS and overall performance in most games depends on which settings provide the most benefits without harming graphical fidelity. While lowering each setting may result in the highest performance, there may be an intermediate base that can offer the same smoothness without turning all plants 2D.

Use FSR or DLSS Upscaling

On Reddit, amidst the cries for a fix or complaints about performance issues, you can find players asking others to change their Anti-Aliasing/Upscale Method to FSR; some players report doubling their FPS with this simple change. NVIDIA users can use the exclusive DLSS instead of FSR and could see similar boosts in performance. The Upscaling setting is located in the Graphics tab and under the Advanced section.

For those who don't know, upscaling is the redrawing of an image with a higher pixel count without putting pressure on your GPU in the process. For example, an upscaled 1080p image will look very similar to a 1440p image, or you can go for 720p upscaled to 1080p or 1440p for example. So, changing your upscaling method will have a strong impact on both visual clarity and performance (plus the bigger the difference between the native and upscaling resolution).

Use lower graphics settings

We never like to hear these words said, but there aren't many alternatives. We have to bite the bullet and accept that scaling down our graphics is the best way to improve performance. This solution will have varying effects depending on your platform.

Below you'll find a balanced set of graphics options that should offer a mostly constant 60FPS or so depending on your hardware:

  • Graphics – Quality
    • Global Illumination – Low
    • Shadow Quality – Low
    • Texture Resolution – Medium/Low
    • Effects Quality – Low
    • Reflections Quality – Low
    • Sheet Quality – Medium/Low
  • Graphics – Post Processing
    • Post Processing – Medium/Low
    • Motion blur – None
  • Graphics – Advanced
    • Anti-Aliasing/Upscaling Method – DSLL/FSR
    • Anti-Aliasing Quality – Medium
    • Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution – DLAA
    • Nvidia Reflex Low Latency – On + Boost

Expect performance improvements

Madfinger Games recently announced a fix for several issues but performance is not among those listed. While it's not great that Gray Zone Warfare isn't working the way we'd all like, fixing performance issues isn't a quick five-minute job, so all we can do is wait.

That's all we have on Gray Zone Warfare's performance. If you're looking for similar content, check out How to Play Gray Zone Warfare – Beta, Release Date, Gameplay and more in Pro Game Guides!
