Games rarely launch these days without players experiencing problems. The online nature of gaming, along with the challenges of cross-platform launches as well as the myriad of PC configurations available, make it difficult for even the most thorough developers to cover all of its bases. Many players have encountered issues like Caliber not showing up, as well as game-breaking stuttering issues with The First Descendant, so here’s what to try if this affects you.

Check your mouse settings

For PC gamers, many gamers have found that changing the voting percentage of their mouse fixed their stuttering problems. The polling rate controls the frequency of data updates between the mouse and your machine. Players found that if they reduce this to 500 or 1,000 (which means 1,000 Hz per second) it solves the problem.

Many modern gaming devices have polling rates automatically set to 4,000 or even 8,000, which it seems that right now, The First Descendant is not facing. This will probably be addressed with a patch, but for now, it may solve your problems. You’ll find this in your mouse settings, which can be accessed through system settings on your computer (not the game itself).

Change your graphics card settings

If lowering the polling doesn’t eliminate the problem, another computer solution to try is to change your graphics card settings. First, check if you have Nvidia or AMD card and make sure you have installed the latest graphics drivers. Also, make sure your machine meets the required minimum specification to play the game (see above).

If updating your drivers doesn’t fix the problem, try disabling additional options (such as Frame Generation and Ray Tracing) or reducing quality settings in the game’s graphics settings. Older machines often struggle to play the latest games at their highest settings.
