How to get to the Ellac River & The Cerulean Coast in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Getting to the Cerulean Coast isn’t exactly the most direct route in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree. But after much stumbling like a muppet, I finally found my way, and I’ll help you find yours too.
How to find the Ellac River in Shadow of the Erdtree
To reach the river Ellac, which in turn will take us to the Cerulean Coast, you want to start at the Castle Front Place of Grace in Scadu Altus. From here, you want to take the path that leads to the left as you come straight from the Place of Grace. From here, progress a short while, and then take the sloping path down to the right.
Continue on this path for another short while until you see a path going off to the left. Follow this until you reach a Miyazaki classic, a poisonous swamp. Here, go left and continue until the area opens up and you can go left again. Go down this slope until you reach a basin with a big old crab just chilling in it. Here, turn left to see a cave entrance guarded by some poisonous flowers.
Navigate through the caves (which is a relatively simple section), and you’ll be in the Ellac River itself. Continue to find your first Place of Grace in this area, the Ellac River Cave Place of Grace. Keep going and you’ll have to make a few jumps between rocks to advance, but they’re not particularly life-threatening. Jump down when possible, and eventually you’ll see a corpse with an item on a rock that you can jump to. This item is one of the create recipe cookbooks (1), so it’s definitely worth picking up. Continue to drop down cliffs carefully straight ahead (2).
Finally after falling enough, there will be another Place of Grace, this is the one Ellac River Downstream Place of Grace. You’ll have to descend even further, but eventually, you’ll be greeted with a (quite nice) enclosed meadow, filled with some massive rams. They are also golden and can summon lightning if you get nervous, so don’t slack off. Another thing that is pretty hard to miss is the Giant Fire an enemy that should be avoided. Follow the water here to reach a slope leading up, which is the final stretch before you reach the magnificent Cerulean Coast.
Once you’re there, take in the magnificence of this amazing area for just a second, and then find yourself the Cerulean Coastal Place of Grace. This area has many secrets and bosses, including a very a big dungeon with some juicy lore, and a boss fight with an undead dragon. It also has a bunch of those blue squoogly (best word I could think of) guys kicking around, and I just can’t get enough of them.
