Jack Black can't believe there isn't a GTA or Red Dead Redemption movie yet

Musician, actor and huge Red Dead Redemption fan Jack Black can't believe the Rockstar Games IP has become a Hollywood blockbuster.

Black who voiced Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie , most recently lent his talents to Claptrap in the Borderlands movie. It appears in August this year and the actor/artist went on the Inside a Whole Movie podcast to discuss the project. The episode hasn't aired yet but the magazine shared excerpts of the interview on their website.

When asked what video games he would like to see adapted into a film, Black responds by saying that he “can't believe” a GTA or Red Dead movie has been started. He puts emphasis on Red Dead in particular. There has been a lot of talk from the communities of those games about a possible movie or show. You can read Jack Black's full quote below and the interview article here.

I can't believe they haven't already started making a movie about any of the Rockstar Games – Grand Theft Auto, but especially Red Dead Redemption. Those things are already like movies, you know? I guess that's the point. Some video games are already halfway to telling such stories, and there are some movies that resemble video games.

I think we're moving in a way where there will be more combinations of video games and movies, and it's exciting. It's like the beginning of a new era.

Back in 2022, an early Rockstar Games employee revealed how Hollywood cast Eminem in the lead role of a Grand Theft Auto movie. It was directed by Tony Scott (Top Gun) but Rockstar's Sam Houser stopped it saying he wasn't interested. You can learn more about the GTA movie that never came to fruition here.

Jack Black loves Red Dead

As part of Tenacious-D, Mr Black released a song last year called Video Games. He was open about his love for Rockstar's epic western and naturally incorporated it into the song's lyrics and accompanying video. You can learn more about it here.

“Red Dead Redemption 2 that's not a game. It's an incredible journey through old American history. Fighting for your life and fighting for your family. Trying to live your days with honor and integrity. That's not a game, that's a grown-up thing.”
