Make a horror movie with your friends in The Casting of Frank Stone
There’s no better collaboration I can think of than between Supermassive Games and Behavior Interactive—studios that made two of my favorite games. I expect a lot from The Casting of Frank Stone.
Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry were some great (and not so great) releases from Supermassive Games. Now it’s their turn to explore the Entity Realm and tell a new story, just like Project T is doing.
As a big fan of these narrative horror games, I was extremely happy when The Casting of Frank Stone was announced. The new gameplay trailer, which you can check out below, only raises my hopes for an amazing game.
The story is set in Cedar Hills in the summer of 1980. Four friends try to shoot a horror masterpiece but end up in horror itself. They decide to investigate the Mill, but they encounter more than they bargained for.
While Frank Stone – a serial killer whose legacy looms over the city – is set up as the main villain, everyone talks about him in the past tense. Considering we get a glimpse of the supernatural happening in the trailer as well as a shot of the sky with a creature similar to the Mindflayer (that’s probably the Entity), I’m guessing Frank Stone will be back. As DBD players know, there is no escape for the Survivors or the Slayers.
The format of the game will follow the usual Supermassive standard of many branching choices that affect the lives of your characters and whether they even stay alive. Of course, you can’t forget the fun environmental puzzles and QTEs. I hope they take it to the extreme and make it so that many choices and missing QTEs will kill you instantly; I enjoy when I’m always afraid of killing my characters and knowing that every decision I make could be their last.
There is a possibility of a crossover between The Casting of Frank Stone and Dead by Daylight. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, I suspect that serial killer Frank Stone will be heading over to the Trials, perhaps dragging one of the filmmaker’s friends with him.
As for the other way, we already saw someone holding a Hunter mask in the gameplay trailer. I must have screamed when I saw it because she is my favorite Slayer in DBD. We’ll have to wait and find out what relevance she has to The Casting of Frank Stone, or if it’s just a fun easter egg for us fans.
They didn’t leave out the iconic DBD hooks either. In the trailer, you’ll see one girl impaled on a hook, letting out a scream familiar to anyone who’s played Dead by Daylight. I have to wonder if that means instant death or if we’ll get the chance to write her off as a different character.
What is The Casting of Frank Stone release date?
There is currently no exact release date for the Casting of Frank Stone (much to my disappointment). However, we do know that the developers are compromising on their original deadline of 2024. Hopefully, that means we’ll see the game sometime before the end of the year. Remember that delays can happen, but let’s not get upset about it.
