Monster Hunter Wilds trailer reveals Lala Barina, new settlement and more

Monster hype continues to build for Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the fiercely beloved franchise, and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto took to the stage at Gamescom 2024 to reveal the latest new trailer for the upcoming sequel. While a firm release date for the game has yet to be announced, there was still plenty of visual content to unpack in the new trailer, including more new monsters, more action-packed gameplay, and the new main settlement.

The trailer opens with a first-hand look at one of the game’s featured monsters, a fearsome arachnid beast known as Lala Barina. She may very well give fellow spider cousin Rakna-Kadaki from Monster Hunter: Run for her zennies as our new troop of hunters find themselves trapped within the Scarlet Forest, a bright purple web of insane proportions created by Lala Barina herself.

Gameplay reveals the mechanics of some of Lala Barina’s attacks, including one where her abdomen turns into a surprisingly beautiful red flower. Of course, we still wouldn’t recommend getting too close. We also get to see where she faces another aggressive monster during the battle, a returning mechanic from previous Monster Hunter games.

We also get a first-hand look at what will likely be the premier settlement for all your hunting needs. As in previous games, players can craft new armor and weapons there, partake of special meals that boost your stats, trade goods and more. We also get another glimpse of the bird-like mountains called Seikrets, which we will use this time.

The trailer hints at even more monsters you’ll bring along on your adventures, like a winged “wild beast bristling with lightning,” which the troop says is the region’s “apex predator.” We get more gameplay of furious combat with this creature that clearly likes to make brutal lightning attacks at every opportunity. In other words, both ranged and close combat with this enemy will be intense.

We also get a glimpse of what looks like Palicos building tents in the open field for player needs, probably like resting and adjusting tools. Finally, we get a montage of other monsters roaming the deserts and canyon deserts where we’ll likely spend a lot of time. Needless to say, there will be plenty of awesome new monster-themed gear for us to try out.

Monster Hunter Wilds will debut in 2025 and will be available across all current-gen platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam). The game can be listed, and to celebrate the occasion at Gamescom, a Steam sale including all available Monster Hunter titles (except Monster Hunter Stories) is now live.
