Pawn quest exploits in Dragon’s Dogma 2

When your main pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is hired by other players, you can get new items, earn Rift Crystals and XP for your main pawn. Knowing how to set the right quest objectives and hire the right pawns can affect your gameplay.

Every time you sleep at an inn, the game acts as if your pawn goes through the rift into other universes (other players’ worlds) and comes back with some experience, Rift Crystals, and farewell gifts from each player who hired them.

When you wake up, you get all the rewards and are offered an option to set a new goal for your pawn. These goals, called pawn quests, are for other players to complete when they have your main pawn in their group, versus a reward that comes out of your pocket.

You only pay this reward once, however many players reach the goal, and you only get the goodies and XP from one of them. So you do not hesitate when you set a high reward in the fear that many players complete it and empty your pockets.

In fact, giving decent rewards can be a good idea to hire your pawn more often, get more Rift crystals and speed up your pawn badges.

Rift Crystals are a currency used only to hire pawns and purchase cosmetic enhancements for them. There are three main ways to get RC:

  • Find and rebuild Riftstones. Each stone you activate will reward you with a small amount of RC. It usually gives you 30 RC, but it can increase it, the stone is important or was harder to find.
  • Found in the world. If you’re lucky, some enemies or chests may drop RC but it’s not a consistent source.
  • As payment to your Main Pawn when it is employed by other players. This is the most consistent source, and hence the importance of making an attractive character and placing good rewards for your Pawn Quest.

Pawn Quests and Pawn hiring tips in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Many people overlook the pawn hiring mechanic due to its simplicity, but it’s worth looking deeper. There is money to be made, items to be obtained, and RC and XP to be gained. Here are my tips for pawn hunting:

  • Some pawns offer great rewards for a very simple quest as well as traveling with them for a day. Hire one that costs 0 RC and has this quest reward, spend the night on a bench, fire the pawn, rinse and repeat to fill your pockets with Wakestones.
  • Offer a Wakestone as a reward for your Pawn Quest and your character will be employed much more often, which will advance their pawn badges.
  • Watch out for Dragonplague. While traveling in the rift, your pawns can contract a curse that, if you’re not careful, can get out of control and end up with an entire city being murdered. If you followed my first tip, you might already have a lot of Wakestones when all the NPCs are killed, and you might be able to revive them.
  • Be nice to other players. This is a good idea when you play community games, because giving good rewards and a good score is not only a nice gesture, but one that returns. It also promotes a healthy community and a positive attitude overall. If, on the other hand, you’re one of those players who sends pawns back with rotten food and dried flowers as payment, I hope the next time your pawn eyes turn red, you don’t notice.
