Roblox introduces Discord-like “Party” feature, makes it easy to play with friends
The RDC 2024 event was full of surprises as the developers introduced various new features for the Roblox gaming platform. One feature that particularly drew my attention was the introduction of the Party. It’s no secret that Roblox is played by millions of players every day, and the platform needed a dedicated communication area. Therefore, this gap will soon be filled by the upcoming Party feature.
The Party feature will allow you to create a group with your friends where you can text chat, communicate by voice and even join your favorite experiences with just one tap. It works similarly to the popular VoIP platform, Discord.
However, it is important to note that only users aged 9 and above will be able to join a group. Additionally, Roblox has confirmed that the feature will initially launch via text chat, followed by voice communication. Fortunately, the best part is that the Party will be fully launched before the end of this year, meaning that in less than three months you will be able to take full advantage of it. But it doesn’t stop there.
This new feature also offers something special for Roblox developers, as they will have the ability to teleport Party members to the same starting point, drop them in a private lobby or pre-pair them into a team by integrating it into their games. This will be made possible through an API that is expected to launch next year.
Similar to Discord, the Party feature will provide an overlay while you’re playing that lets you see who’s talking in the channel, along with some handy shortcuts to quickly perform certain actions. Although it has not been officially confirmed yet, I expect the Party feature to be released on Android and iOS platforms first, as the RDC event showed a mobile demonstration.
