Scar’s costume design has been changed in the latest Wuthering Waves update and here’s why
Late on May 26, there was a sudden update to Wuthering Waves that players became aware of thanks to a passing banner across the top of their screens. Within that update, the devs at KURO GAMES decided to scrap Scar’s original outfit, and many players know why.
I played through the first introduction to Scar earlier in the day on May 26, 2024, and he still had his body suit design. This was a pretty sleek design that reminded me of the old Gundam suits from so many popular Gundam anime and manga series.
However, it quickly became known that players in China did not like the costume because of the design on Scar’s pelvic area. This thick, black stripe led many players on CN to create memes about the design, saying it looked like an “onigiri” (“rice ball” in Japanese).
There were definitely other ways the devs could have tweaked this design because the bodysuit fit Scar pretty well. Players on various Reddit forums, incl this onediscuss the change for hours.
Personally, I would have removed the caps (and kept the buckles) to make his look even more like a Gundam suit or a flight suit. It suited him, and the black line could be stretched up so that it wasn’t so… Obviously placed. Scar would be a much better fit with his female companion with these changes.
The new design of Scar’s pants is very simple. It looks like a quick job without much thought behind it. The character designers at KURO GAMES should be more proud of their design and look at some of the positive attention Scar has received as opposed to the negative attention. Memes aren’t always bag, and many players liked Scar’s design.
There is even a subset of players who liked the idea that Scar could be trans due to the original design of his model, and a petition was started to restore his original design.
