Sponsor a Rockstar Games Boxer Before We Get GTA 6
Rockstar Games has announced that they are sponsoring a former world champion boxer as he seeks to mentor and train an up and coming fighter. Fans will say “we have Rockstar Games getting into boxing before a GTA 6 release” after this unrelated announcement.
In a surprising disclosure by an Instagram ReelThe gaming company says they are “thrilled” to sponsor George “Saint George” Groves as he trains Lucas Roehrig. If you’re not aware, Groves is an ex-British, Commonwealth, European and WBA super middleweight champion.
“We wish them the best on their way to the top!” said Rockstar Games along with an accompanying video. It sees Groves coaching Roehrig in the ring plus Roehrig wearing a jacket with the Rockstar Games logo on the back. You can see a picture of it below.
The former boxer also shared the video to his Instagram page. In the caption Groves wrote “I am excited to announce that I will be training and managing the incredible talent that is ‘LightsOut’ Lucas Roehrig. Lucas is without a doubt the best and most exciting prospect I have seen since retiring from boxing and I glad he chose me to be the man to help guide him to the top. More big news in the coming weeks, so follow him now and join the journey!” He also said “Thank you for the support @RockstarGames” in an Instagram story.
One of Groves’ rivals in the ring was Carl Froch who commented on the reel saying “Good luck boys! Lucas, you’re in good hands. George knows the game at every level.” He also brought up, as usual, he knocked out Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium.
Rockstar Outside Games
While this might surprise a lot of people, it’s not Rockstar Games’ first foray into sponsoring sports. For example, Rockstar title sponsored the Red Hook Criterium bike race for several years (which we attended a few times).
They were also the main sponsor of bodyboarding world championships in the early 2000s among other things like the Signature Cycles Team. It’s always cool to see Rockstar Games sponsoring outside of the gaming industry. We also can’t forget Rockstar Games made an entire game about Table Tennis.
