Team Fortress 2 now first Valve game with “Overwhelmingly Negative” reviews on Steam
Team Fortress 2 has been review-bombed on Steam by the game’s community and now has over 100,000+ negative reviews on the platform. This makes the nearly two-decade-old shooter the first Valve title to receive an ”overwhelmingly negative” score on its own platform.
The game is one of the most played on Steam even 17 years after its release. But, it has been plagued by a “boot issue” for quite some time now, which makes it completely unplayable according to some players. Cheating aimbots have become increasingly common on the TF2 game servers with no way to stop them, ruining the experience for the majority of genuine players. The fact that the issue became so severe forced the Tf2 community to act.
The past four days have brought more than 25,000 negative reviews on Steam, most of which are from users with hundreds of hours in the game, blaming Valve and urging them to fix the game’s bot issue. According to one recent reviewer who has over 600 hours on TF2, the game has been ”inundated with people wanting to doxx, DDOS, and SWAT anyone who takes action against the problem”.
An online campaign with the hashtags #FixTF2 and #SaveTF2 was created by the community, and website was created to raise awareness of the game’s problems. The site mentions that the bot problem has been rampant for the past five years and Valve has done nothing to fix it, despite being aware of the matter two years ago. But, instead of solving the problem, they moved on to other businesses. The site also launched a petition to fix the game, which has now amassed more than 200,000 signatures since the campaign began.
Valve has yet to acknowledge TF2’s negative reviews and it’s unclear if they’ll ever see that they’ve been aware of the bot issue for quite some time. However, the recent online campaign and petition might make the developer give an answer to the community about the problems.
