Wartales Whip Guide – How to make and use
Questing and combat are the core of medieval strategy RPG Wartales, but managing a tight camp makes life a lot easier. If you want to shape your companions, read on for my full Whip guide below.
Making the Whip in Wartales
The Whip is a rare item of Camping Equipment this can be done by a Tinker at the Workshop in your camp once you have the recipe. To get the recipe for the Whip in Wartales, you must first buy the Shares recipe from Tiltren Jail (see map below). You will then need to make the Stocks and add them to your camp. Once done, you will automatically receive the Whip recipe added to your compendium in the Tinkerer section.
To make the Whip in Wartales you will need 6 Leather, 6 Woodand 4 Rope. As with other Camping accessories, you can only make one Whip. It will appear in your inventory once made and can be placed anywhere in your camp (it looks like a wooden cross). Each companion can then be assigned to the Whip. There is no enhanced version of the Whip and it does not open new recipes.

How to use the Whip in Wartales
Once you've made, placed and assigned a companion to the Whip, you can start using it. Select the Whip and select use from the menu. This will open a list of companions, with anyone using camp equipment (which can be affected by the Whip) having their names highlighted in white. Any companion you choose will be whipped when you follow camp.
Using the Whip doubles the productivity of a partner. It can be used on companions using the Workshop, Meat Drying Rack, beehiveand Tanning Rack. Once selected you can click them again to deselect them. However, if you whip a companion too many times, they will die (there is no set time limit for this. You can heal a unit that receives the Whip whip state of injury in the usual way). There is also no permanent benefits of using the Whip. It only affects a partner during breaks in which they are whipped.
Making a Whip also opens the Make An Example Of Them! bonus in the Knowledge section of the Compendium. Taking this increases the productivity of all units (whether whipped or not) on turns in which a unit being whipped dies.
When to use the Whip
It is advisable only to use the Whip on expendable prisoners that you either do not want or have refused to join your party. If you don't have enough companions to use all your gadgets when you're camping, this is a profitable (if barbaric) way to make some extra resources. Using it on companions you want to keep is not advisable, as whipping causes injuries and quickly damages relationships.
