There are various combat challenges that players can take on in Final Fantasy XIV with their Warriors of Light, and one of the more popular ones is the Unreal Trials. With the arrival of Dawntrail, however, a new cycle of these tests will begin with more exclusive rewards to claim, so it’s important to know when exactly it will be time to dive back in.
When will Unreal Trials return in FFXIV Dawntrail?
While Dawntrail has a jungle full of new content for players to embark on on their maiden adventure through Tural, the full patch notes for 7.0 on The Lodestone revealed that Unreal Trials will not be part of the initial launch, and will be temporarily “disabled”.
Instead, Warriors of Light can look forward to Unreal Trials officially returning in Patch 7.1, where a new one will debut with the same usual rules regarding the combat mechanics, along with many exclusive Faux Hollows rewards (eg – mounts, minions, accessories). As noted in the most recent Live Letter, we know so far that Patch 7.05 will arrive on July 30th, at the end of Dawntrail’s first full month.
Beyond that will likely be patch 7.1, although we don’t have a concrete date for when that will arrive yet. As for an educated guess, we can hopefully expect it in late Summer, maybe sometime in September. We should get more details closer to that time frame, and we’ll provide an immediate update when we know more.
What will be the first Unreal Trial for FFXIV Dawntrail?
Although we know that the return of Unreal Trials in Dawntrail will start with a brand new one, we still don’t know who it will be, and according to tradition, it probably won’t be revealed until we get the patch notes for 7.1 in our hands.
However, there are many possibilities to consider as to what it could be. The most recent set of Unreal Trials took players back through The Military Triad with Sophia, Sephirot, and Zurvan, followed by Thordan in the Singularity Reactor which was available until the last day before pre-Dawntrail maintenance.
Beyond that, we could see more attempts at the Heavensward expansion appear, like Bismarck in The Infinite Blue, or of course Nidhogg in The Minstrel’s Ballad: The Wrath of Nidhogg. That would seem the likely course, and then the later bits of Dawntrail could see the appearance of Stormblood-era Unreal Trials. We’ll just have to wait and, as Yoshi-P lovingly says, look forward to it.
