Apex Legends Battle Pass update called ‘nail in the coffin’ by community

EA recently announced the overhaul of Battle Pass in Apex Legends, which turned out to be one of the most controversial changes in the history of the first-person shooter. While they think this will improve the value and reduce the grind to unlock rewards, the community thinks the redesign is completely greedy and unnecessary.

The moment in Apex Legends shared the blog about the Battle Pass update that will arrive with the Season 22 update, social media platforms have been flooded with criticism from fans.

Up until now, every seasonal update in Apex Legends has come with a fresh Battle Pass with 110 levels of cosmetic rewards that can be unlocked through gameplay. From Season 22 Shockwave onwards, the game will have two Battle Passes for each season (ie one for each division). Each Battle Pass will now have 60 levels instead of 110 and an improved set of rewards as you can see in the image above.

Previously, the Battle Pass could be purchased by spending Apex Coins that you collected over time (950 coins for Premium and 2800 coins for Premium+ Pass). With the new update, you will only be able to purchase Battle Pass by spending money ($10 for Premium and $20 for Premium+ Pass). This is one of the main reasons behind the united outcry of the player base.

In addition, considering the two Battle Passes each season, if you want to collect all the cosmetic rewards, you will have to spend $20 total for the Premium and $40 for the Premium+ Battle Pass.

Based on all reddit and Twitter discussions on this matter, it is clear that many are reluctant to spend money twice every seasonal update.

Apex Legends is a one-of-a-kind game that has been among the most played FPS for the past few years. However, this Battle Pass change adds to a host of other things that could contribute to its downfall.

The game has long been in a state of disrepair thanks to server connectivity issues, bugs, and a rampant cheating problem, as mentioned by Reddit user tobifrass. This update was announced when everyone was waiting for Respawn to talk about what changes they planned to fix the main problems that persist in Apex Legends. Instead, they gave players a Battle Pass overhaul they didn’t really want.

While saying that this update is “the final nail in the coffin,” user randomred also added that Respawn still hasn’t addressed the kronus issue that some controller players are using to cheat by toning down weapon recoil and boost of goal aid.

What caught my attention the most was a simple question from Spitfirekeen who asked how paying $20 for a game without a server in his entire continent is justified. Yes, indeed, Africa does not have servers for Apex Legends. It can be said that the community is not massive in that region, but if someone from South Africa is going to play the game, the least ping they can expect is 180ms, which is terrible for a multiplayer FPS.

Several players have expressed that they have uninstalled Apex Legends and will not play the game until the issues are resolved, although it is unclear how widespread this boycott will be and whether it will lead to a reversal of the changes or Respawn will address the criticism. .
