Wuthering Waves gives any new account a free five-star character to choose from. There are five characters, called Resonators, that you can choose from, but which one is the best to choose?

As part of any new account in Wuthering Waves, you will have the opportunity to choose a character for free in the Five-Star Gathering of the Beginner's Choice. You'll also be able to choose a five-star weapon to accompany them in a separate free banner. If you're wondering which of the five five-star Resonators you should pick, here's my list in order.

5. Lingyang: Ling Ling Fighting Spirit
Lingyang was extremely lackluster in the Beta. While his kit looks great on paper, and the character model is pretty sweet looking, he just didn't live up to expectations. His Outro seems like it should be the most powerful spell here, but he can't keep up with the rest of the five stars with it.
4. Jianxin: Purifying Reflections
I've seen some arguments on Reddit and other communities online that Jianxin will be the best unit to pick in the Starter Pick Match, mostly due to her shield ability and auto parry. She also has a Venti-like ability to stack enemies. However, she wasn't great in the Beta due to some bugs; if Kuro manages to fix her gear to work properly, she'll likely move much higher on this list.
3. Encore: Wooly-Counting Game
Encore is still a strong character to pick, but it doesn't look like she will be as powerful as Calcharo. Her Angry Cosmos Inherent relies on her having most of her HP intact, but her Outro is an amazingly powerful DoT. She wants to land heavy attacks when her Dissonance is full to start her damage reduction, as opposed to Calcharo's just needing to land basic attacks.
2. Chariot: Mirage Hunter
Calcharo will be an extremely powerful single target DPS that will pair well with the upcoming character Yinlin; he will be fabulous for early-game boss fights. If you're looking for incredible damage though, Calcharo is a great choice for your team. His Outro attack creates a shadow copy of himself that attacks for 56% of his damage again, and he has some powerful inherent abilities that reduce the damage taken while increasing the damage to enemies.
1. Verina: Nature Calling
Verina is one of only two healers currently available in Wuthering Waves and is very powerful. Her Outro skill increases the damage dealt by the entire party by 15% for 30 seconds in addition to her 20% boost to your party's attack power for 20 seconds. She also has a sweet get-out-of-jail-free card up her sleeve with her inherent Grace of Life ability. She is a powerful healer that improves your team and keeps you from dying, making her the clear first choice at the moment. Also, just look at her! She is adorable.
