CoD devs update MW3 Ranked Play limits weapons to mixed fan reception

Call of Duty developers have limited the weaponry for MW3 Ranked Play once again, updating their no-weapon list from the Season 3 release. Fans aren't sure if the growth of this list is healthy or harmful to the game; while a good majority is in favor of the update, a decent part of the community finds it problematic.

The community reaction to the MW3 Ranked Play restrictions

Maintaining balance and competitive fairness in Ranked is a paramount duty of the Call of Duty developers. As the main mode to test your mettle against the best and see where you stack up, it's imperative that no achievements, cheats, or unfair advantage are present. However, some overpowered weapons available to each player might just be the biggest problem in terms of fair and fun gameplay in Ranked.

This made the devs further limit the weaponry offered to all players, removing the likes of the HRM-9, RAM-9, WSP-Swarm, Holger 556, MTZ 556, and the BP50. Some of them are favorite weapons, but while some are happy to see the WSP Swarm disappear, others don't agree that limiting choice is the right idea.

Reddit user Leananddopamine said, “Swarm is finally gone now those bots will be exposed in ranked.” The comment collected more than 60 comments from the community, agreeing with the removal of the ultra-light SMG from Ranked.

One user thought the update was lackluster stating, “Wow absolute d*****t update.” (from user MrRustles1). This prompted a response from user imafiremylazerBWAH, “Nothing d*****t about removing those broken **guns from ranked”, showing their agreement with the removal of the META weapons. A new challenger approached, when Reddit user Phuzz15 quickly commented, “Oh, come on. They've been there for like a week. They're definitely worth trial and error so ranked it's not limited to two meta weapons,” thus bringing in a great one. Show the table that the developers need room and time to experiment without the community at large supporting them.

Reddit user Temojikato lamented, “This game is getting so f***** boring. Just ban everything but knives, why not?” Despite the profanity, they bring up another good point and make me wonder how long it will be until all weapons are somehow limited and players only have minimal options.

All in all, it's easy to see that the player base isn't exactly rallying around these changes. Most are glad certain problem guns are gone, but others worry there won't be a choice after all.
