Aloft is a farming simulation that encourages you to explore. While you are outside, you will find many materials, and one of the most important of these is paper.
Where to Find Paper in Aloft
Before you can make a paper in Aloft, you can find it lying around in ruins of old cities and houses. When you find a man-made ruin somewhere, you should look for a a book with its pages blowing in the wind (You can also hear the pages fluttering around). Take them by pressing the interact button. There are a limited number of these pages in the world, but you should still be able to get enough to learn how to build a lot of things before you run out.
How to Make Paper
Once you start unlocking recipes, you’ll eventually be able to make your own paper from scratch. To do this, you will need to build a Workbench. You can find this recipe as one of the original few recipes on the main starter islands. In the recipe menu of the Workbench, mix together one Glasswort, three Small Plants, and one Pure Water. You cannot use dirty water for this recipe.
This will give you Paper Pulp. Go back into the Workbench and combine five Paper Pulps make one a sheet of Paper. Here are the places where you can get all the ingredients you will need for Paper Pulp.
- Pure Water: Mix Charcoal and Dirty Water in your crafting menu or at the Workbench.
- Small Plants: Using Harvester, cut any of the plants growing around; most will yield a few of these small green leaves.
- Glasswort: This plant is found on some islands; it kind of looks like coral. I’ve included a screenshot of what it looks like below. You need a Harvester to collect it, and it also gives Small Plants when cut.
What is the use of Paper in Aloft?
The reason paper is so important is that you need it learn new recipes. Every time you come across something in the world that you have never been able to build, you can sketch it in a sketchbook to learn how to make it yourself. To do this, you will need lots of charcoal and paper pages on which to doodle the items you find. You also need paper to make a Field Guide, which you will need to repair ecosystems on islands.
