How to enable 120fps mode in XDefiant

Ubisoft’s Call of Duty competitor, XDefiant has finally arrived bringing some free FPS goodness to our screens. Having a higher frame rate gives you a slight advantage thanks to smoother gameplay when it comes to these drag-based shooters. Fortunately, there is a 120fps mode in XDefiant that you can enable to give you that buttery smooth framerate you crave.

The mode you’ll need to enable is called 120 Hz refresh rate, but this is the same thing as 120fps. To enable this, you’ll need to make sure you have a display capable of at least 120 Hz and that you’ve also enabled the high frame rate at the console/system level.

Turn on 120 Hz refresh rate in XDefiant

If you have a compatible display, open the Settings menu by pressing in the right analog stick on consoles and navigating to the ‘Video’ menu. At the bottom of this, you’ll find the 120 Hz refresh rate option. This is set to “Off” by default, so you’ll need to turn it on even if you have a compatible display and the 120 Hz mode enabled on the console on your PS5 or Xbox Series X.

It’s worth noting that this mode is apparently only available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The Series S doesn’t seem to have this option, probably because it has less graphics horsepower than its bigger brother.

For PC gamers, you need to change the Refresh rate from the standard option 60.00 Hz to 120.00 Hz. This option is towards the top of the Video and Graphics menu, just below Display Resolution.

By enabling this mode, you will lower the graphical fidelity of the game. In other words, it won’t look as nice. That’s the price to pay for great frame rates, though!

XDefiant is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Amazon Luna.
