How to get Hardening Recipes in Diablo 4 Season 4

One of the new key mechanics in Diablo 4 Season 4 is the ability to customize gear using special Temper recipes. These recipes provide a significant amount of gear customization to your build, but you must find them first before you can use their effects.

Where to get Temper Recipes in Diablo 4 Season 4

Tempering Recipes are used with the new Tempering system, which allows you to add stats to gear. You must find the recipe of a specific stat to add that stat to a kit. Moderate Recipes are almost entirely loot dropsin that they come from killing monsters, similar to other gear drops.

Tempering Recipes have a bunch of unique stats about them, and have rarities, similar to gear drops. In most cases, the higher the rarity, the more powerful the stats. Powerful enemies, such as bosses and elites, tend to drop high rarity Temper Recipes.

Season 4 Helltides is a wonderful source for Tempera Recipes, as they tend to have a large number of strong enemies present at all times. Another reason Helltides is a good place to farm for them is that Helltide chests also have a high chance of dropping high-rarity Temper Recipes. The Pit is also a strong place to farm them, as bosses and Elites are common there.

Moderate Recipe Categories

All Temper Recipes, regardless of type or rarity, fall into one of six stat categories.

  • weapons – These tend to focus on stats that add Lucky Hit mechanics or enhance specific class abilities.
  • Offensive – These focus on stats that add Damage (DoT, Attack Speed, Critical Strike, etc…)
  • Defensive – These focus on stats that improve your survivability (Armor, Resistance, Life, etc…)
  • benefit – These focus on stats that improve your Human Control ability (Slow, Freeze, etc…)
  • Mobility – These focus on stats that improve your movement ability (Dodge, Run Speed, etc…)
  • Resource – These focus on stats that lower cooldowns and restore your class-specific resource.

You can only add one Tempering Recipe stat to a piece of gear, but even with the limitation, there’s a lot you can do to customize your playstyle. All of these stats stack with each other, so it’s possible to stack one or two of these enough to dramatically affect how you play a class. My Fire Wizard freezes enemies consistently, for example.
