Path of Exile 2 beta is now alpha, beta delayed for polishing
ARPG Path of Exile 2 was first announced five years ago. A sequel to the reigning king of the genre, fans were excited recently when they finally was given a beta date of June 6, 2024, at which time they could finally get their hands on the game. Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait a little longer, as the beta has been delayed indefinitely, with an alpha taking its place in June.
The new beta date for Path of Exile 2 is still not known even internally; Game director Jonathan Rogers of Grinding Gear Games is keeping it open, and says it’s coming later in the year (and he’s leaning toward the last quarter).
As for the reason behind the delay, he describes it as a simple matter of underestimating the time required to polish the game. Asked to elaborate, Rogers told us, “Everything will be in the game in June; we just need to work on polishing across the board. While developing it, you’ll have the boss in the game and you think it’s done and good, but wait! You discover that there are a lot of things to change. So we have to iterate until it’s at a higher level of quality.”

In the meantime, a sneak peek at the Ranger class in Path of Exile 2 and the Necropolis tie-in will certainly make the wait easier (or harder, depending on how you look at it).
As for the alpha, this will likely be for press and content creators only (we’re waiting for confirmation on that). However, you can expect more Path of Exile 2 preview and news coverage from us before the beta launch.
