Roblox ban leads to unprecedented protest by Turkish children

After Turkey’s recent ban on Roblox, Turkish kids aren’t just sitting back—they’re hitting the streets protesting to get their favorite game back. In case you missed the news, the government banned Roblox on August 7, 2024, due to concerns about child exploitation and security issues. Instagram was also banned, but it didn’t take long before access was restored.

The surprising part? It’s the children leading these protests! A TikTok video has gone viral showing Turkish children singing “Roblox Geri Gelsin,” which translates to “Roblox come back.” They are loud and clear asking the government to rethink the ban and let them play again.

As you might guess, the ban has sparked some strong opinions. Some people think it’s a necessary move for safety, while others argue that the government could have simply enforced stricter content rules instead of banning the game outright.

Roblox isn’t standing still either. They issue a statement saying they are working with local authorities to sort things out. They emphasized that they invest millions every year to keep the platform safe and regularly talk to policy makers about protecting young users. They hope they can get Turkish players back online soon.

But honestly, we think the ban might stay for a while until the company meets all the demands of the Turkish government. Currently, using a VPN seems to be the only way to play Roblox, but we recommend that parents and children stay away, as it could be viewed as illegal.
