Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Revolver Logo Spotted In Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

The logo for the Western Red Dead Revolver by Rockstar Games in 2004 was found in the new Dead Rising remaster. While Red Dead Revolver is not as popular as Red Dead Redemption, it was still the beginning of the legendary series. There is a history lesson here for those who think this discovery makes no sense. More on that below.

Capcom just released Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which they claim is a “complete graphical overhaul” of the zombie open world game from 2006. Fans of the series got a look at how the remaster was done.

One Reddit user, Penguinazunow found the Red Dead Revolver on the front of a building in the remaster. According to the user, at specific angles it will display a Wild Call One Shot Decides texture over it as seen in the image below.

You’ll also notice that the normal map behind the Wild Call One Shot texture is that of the Red Dead Revolver logo. Viewing the character face hides the Wild Call One Shot Decides texture and only shows the normal Red Dead Revolver map

This specific building is out of bounds so not part of the playable area. A problem was used to access this part of the map. The user says they looked around these parts for hours and this was the only building with the Red Dead Revolver asset on it.

Why did this happen?

Now some people may be wondering why Capcom put a Rockstar Games title logo in their game? Basically, Red Dead Revolver was originally developed by Angel Studios and published by Capcom. Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, acquired Angel Studios after a few years of serious development problems with Red Dead Revolver.

Angel Studios was rebranded as Rockstar San Diego would later make Red Dead Redemption. Before that though Rockstar looked at the various projects of the studio in the works. Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser liked the look of Red Dead Revolver enough that the project is worth keeping even though it was considered “unplayable“.

Capcom chose to let Rockstar finish the game and get it out the door and the rest is history. There are possibly leftover assets from Angel Studios that were used in the original Dead Rising game from 2006. This asset flew under Capcom’s radar during the remastering process. Given that this has now been revealed, we could expect a patch to remove it from the game. Rockstar does own a Red Dead Revolver after all.
