Steam is finally introducing the ability to record and share gameplay
Steam user now finally have the ability to record and share their gameplay through the platform. This feature comes unexpectedly when Steam announced its Game Recording and made it available immediately to all Steam users.
The new one Game Recording Function will allow players to record, replay, cut and of course share all their game footage on Steam. While they may sound normal, Steam augments these basic features with the Steam Timeline. Forgot what an NPC said but don’t want to go through hours of footage? Steam will mark it for you. Want to see where you died looking for that lucrative armor? Steam will mark it for you.
You can obviously mark things for yourself with the Player Markers, but Steam saves you the trouble of doing that. This doesn’t work on all games, but we imagine it will work for the most popular games on the platform as well as upcoming ones.
You’ll also be able to quickly share your clips to your phone or any other device to check them out. So if your friends don’t believe you got that armor or beat that boss, send the clip to them directly.
Game recording is also available on the Steam Deck, which is an even bigger plus. Deck users will likely need to be more aware of any differences in performance and power usage, mind you, as the device is portable and has lower specs compared to the average gaming PC.
The ability to record games has been one of the most requested features for Steam and it’s definitely unexpected that it didn’t happen sooner. However, this is a huge win for all Steam users who want to record key moments of their gameplay.
Feedback has been quite positive so far. If you want to get your hands on it yourself, the Game Recording feature is now in its beta mode, so we can expect more tweaks and fixes to it in the coming days.
