Wuthering Waves: which server should you play on?

When starting Wuthering Waves, your first big decision involves choosing the right server for the best gaming experience. WuWa offers five different servers that store game data independently, with no news about the possibility of server migrations. Here are some tips to help you find the best Wuthering Waves server to play on.

How to choose the best Wuthering Waves server

Server Daily Reset Time
America TBA
Asia (closest to Japan) TBA
Europe TBA
HMT (Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan) TBA
MARO (closest to Singapore) TBA

Location

The most important consideration when choosing a server is yours geographical location, because it determines how many pings you will encounter during the game. Your ping is expected to increase the further you are from the server. A higher ping will significantly dampen the gaming experience with lag, action delays and slow loading times. In the worst case, the game becomes completely unplayable even with perfect wifi and a decorated device.

For example, if you live in Italy, your best option is to stick to the Europe server for smooth gameplay. In situations where your location is between two locations (ie Indonesia, which can find stability in both SEA and Asia), you will theoretically be able to play both servers without significant ping, but I strongly suggest trying both before doing.

If you are based in India and Australia, beta players recommended to choose the SEA server (Singapore, Philippines, Thailand) because they are located in geographical proximity.

Communication

While Wuthering Waves is a single-player game, there are ways to communicate with other players, and a co-op mode allows you to meet up with others in the game. In a scenario where you may live in Taiwan but can only speak English, it may be beneficial for you to choose the SEA server, which is likely to have a higher number of English speakers.

Additionally, you might want to consider where your real-life friends play. If you are in different locations, it will be a good idea to test different servers and find a middle ground where the ping is relatively stable for all of them. You may be able to reduce ping with the help of a VPN, but Wuthering Waves has yet to release an official statement on how VPN use might affect the game experience (especially with IRL transactions), so proceed with caution.

Time zone

If you have the luxury of choosing between a number of servers with equal ping stability, you may want to choose one with a time zone that matches your schedule. The server reset times determine when the daily and weekly tasks expire, and it would be a shame to miss them permanently, as they could conflict with your work and sleep hours.

Additionally, time zones will determine how many players will be around while you are awake during co-op events. If you love playing with others and helping newbies through co-op, you wouldn’t want to play on a server where people are most likely sleeping when you’re awake.

Competitive Supports & Player Volume

Another consideration you can make if you’re floating between two or more servers is the possibility of getting more competitive co-op support. For example, the Asia server is historically known to be home to a good number of whales, which increases your chances of getting stronger in the early game. In my experience playing Genshin Impact and other similar gacha games, I don’t believe co-op supports are particularly effective outside of the early game combat. But if you are a casual player and don’t intend to spend a lot of time building your units, it might help to choose the competitive Asia server over the SEA server if given the opportunity.

Additionally, if player volume is a concern, you may want to stay away from servers with a smaller player base. For example, the America server is usually much larger than the Europe server, which makes it more lively during co-op events.
