Genshin Impact teases Natlan with a first look at the region’s Pokemon-esque creatures
Despite only three months remaining until Natlan’s fateful update, Genshin Impact has kept information about the land of dragons relatively sparse. But a one-minute teaser attached to the Version 4.7 Special Program just changed everything we thought we knew about the nation ruled by the Pyro Archon.
Over the years, snippets from various NPCs painted a clear picture of Natlan—one ravaged by war, cultural differences between tribes, and a fiery climate that made the nation known for its hot springs. In fact, an owner of the bathhouse of Inazuman described the place as “a land of burning passion, both in name and climate.”
The dragons of Natlan, called Saurians, may be unique because years of evolution have allowed them to coexist with humans. They are supposed to accompany humanity in the never-ending conflict in the region, where Il Capitano, one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, is said to be involved. He will likely be one of the main Fatui members that players encounter in the new nation.
Players have spotted Natlan-related designs in the past across Iansan and Vennessa, so it’s hard not to imagine an environment filled with volcanoes, lava, destruction, and dragonfire. However, the minute-long Natlan trailer paints a completely different landscape, one with bright colors and dragons that look more like Pokemon than the fearsome creatures associated with constant warfare.
The trailer features three adorable Saurians that look a lot like starter Pokemon. They are shown to perform interesting environmental maneuvers, such as going underground, swimming against the current of the waterfall and using grappling hooks to fly across the sky. HoYoverse has made it their goal to incorporate new exploration maneuvers with each update, so it would be interesting to experience them alongside Saurian companions.
While the trailer featured some scenes of lava, they look extremely bright and much friendlier than what players have come to expect from previous descriptions of Natlan. The final scene also shows an environment full of mountains and greenery, and what looks like a dragon flying in the background. Maybe the little Saurians could evolve into fearsome creatures when they get older, but that’s what the players have to discover on foot in Natlan.
For now, you can learn more about Saurians by participating in the ongoing event called the Specially Shaped Saurian Quest, which runs from May 22, 2024 to June 3, 2024. Additionally, don’t forget to watch Natlan’s adorable trailer at Genshin Impact’s official YouTube channel:
